I need a thin TV (space) and the W1900 looks about the right size. I need it solely for receiving an SD picture via a modulator (channelplus), thus the connection will be coax cable. Reviews talk about problems with black levels, etc., but all focus on component connections. Does anyone use this TV with coax and can you please comment on the quality?

Thanks in advance.

I cannot comment if the 17 and 19 version are the same. But I can share this much...

The use of coax on our DELL W1700 was horrific. I never could overcome what appeared to be color fringing - red and green edges like it needed convergence.

I ultimately routed 90 feet of component and L/R audio to the unit in the kitchen and the image is really good.

My sense, having been around during the early daze of CRT and color, is that the tuner and associated circuitry of the coax input are marginal - not suited for the phase and impedance shifts of a modulated run of any distance.

I did test the coax input via a very short lead and it worked fine. I also tried, and returned a ChannelPlus unit. In fact I used the one which converted the signal to "S video" and it still sucked.

Hope this helps. I punted to component and love it.

regards,

patrick

Patrick, thank you. I don't have the option of component, unfortunately, given the setup of my current system for whole house distribution (two areas of the house have dedicated equipment -- component and DVI, but the distribution is coax. Your comments are very helpful -- this is what I was worried about...
