I need some advice.
I hooked up my DVD player via the component cables to the Winbook 32'LCD,
can anyone explain why the T.V. was unable to properly display the image?
The problems I encountered included the signal being dropped and becoming a black screen and the picture when it did display looking very distorted.
Mainly the picture would show distortion as if I was trying to fast forward the picture even at the menu screen.
I tried both component hookups monster cables and el cheapo ones to no avail, the only way I could watch the DVD player was to use the S-video cable.
Could it be the DVD player, its about 5 years old.
Is the T.V. Defective?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

It could be the DVD player. I went through this last night when I got the monitor home. What kind of monitor and what setting did you have the player on before you hooked it up to the Winbook? Plug the player into the inputs corresponding to how you were using the player before. Then it should see it okay. So if for example you had it set to regular composite before, plug the player into the composite input, toggle the Winbook to AV1 or AV2 and you should be able to see the player.
Once you get that far, then you can change the menu in the DVD player to component output.
DVD player setup menus differ from one player to another, but most let you choose whether or not to output a component signal or a composite signal or an s-video signal. Make sure that you set the menu option to output a component signal. Once you do that, you plug the component cables from the player into the Winbook and toggle the screen to CV1 or CV2

UPDATE
The component output aspect ratio is wrong. Tech support at Winbook advises taking the monitor back, though they have never seen this problem before. When you play back a DVD in 4:3 aspect ratio, it stretches the picture slightly sideways. The screen is 15 inches tall so the 4:3 aspect ration means the picture width should be 20 inches. It makes the width 23.5 inches, distorting the picture. The monitor does not do this on the composite, DVI or s-video inputs. With those inputs the same DVD plays with a 20 inch wide picture, as it shoudl I have tried three different progressive scan DVD players, and it is the same with all of them. So I will try to exchange it for one that does not have this problem. I will take a component DVD player in with me to try it out.
Good luck!

I'm not sure I understand your reply.
Are you saying this is a problem with my T.V. or my DVD player?
Should I just take the television back and have them look at it?
BTW, this set also displays another quirk, all of the remotes I have laying around are being picked up by the T.V.
DVD player,HD tuner also changes something on the T.V.
If I change a channel or a setting in the menu using the T.V. remote the other remotes will repeat what I just hit on the T.V. remote. (Ex.. If I change the channel using the T.V. remote and then use the remote for my DVD player, the Television will respond by changing whatever I just changed with the T.V. remote) Do you follow me on this one?
Aside from the few minor quirks the T.V. has been a nice addition.
My ATI 9600xt looks great with this set.
Thanks for any help,
Brian

As far as the remote control situation bucksfan45, I also see this with my DVD player (Toshiba). I hit a button on my DVD remote and it changes something on the TV.
This TV has a narrow IR receiver thank goodness (You have to literally "aim" the remote at it) so it's not a big deal if the DVD player is not close to the TV.
Another thing is that the remote's signal encoding is a mystery to my dish network remote, I tried everyone of them.
I haven't experienced this problem w/ my tv remote and any other components. I have a sony dvd player, directv receiver, and a samsung ota tuner and don't have any interference. So far so good w/ this tv.. no complaints so far. I did finally hook up directv through an s-video connection and like I expected it is less than ideal. It's acceptable, but sd directv channels are better on a crt. Some channels are clearly better than others but dvds through component and hd look great, compared to directv.. Overall this set seems to be well worth the $.
