Sorry this is a duplicate posting - having originally pinned it to the HT Computer wall. Unfortunately it fell to the floor and was used by the dog.
I guess it should have been here in the first place as you folk know why I need to stretch.

I've been playing with ZP (2.50 beta 4) to implement a constant height setup with an anamorphic lens and I thought I had it working until just recently.

This is for a 16:9 display 1280 x 720 1:1 mapping.

When I first set this up and played back a 2.35 movie within ZP, after selecting "Anamorphic" mode it would do the vertical stretch and fill the panel. Now when I do this, the anamorphic stretch appears as a window within ZP that I then have to zoom to fill my my PJ's panel.

As I said, when I first did this, the ZP widow and my display were filled entirely - no black borders and hence no zoom required. Just what I needed for my Anamorphic lens.

Seems like a finger problem - I just can't determine which finger.
I have tried reinstalling as it worked as I expected at default. I've taken ffdshow out of the loop. All this is to no avail.

Anyone with a suggestion on how to fix this - short of breaking the finger?

Should I just live with having to Zoom the image within ZP? I don't think it affects PQ (not sure - pray tell - let wiser minds prevail) but it *is* an inconvenience.

I think I can help you.

In zoomplayer there's 2 ways to get what you want - only vertical stretch.

For both, select Anamorphic or Full Screen 4:3 in Aspect Ratio

1st way. Shift + S to enter into resize navigator. Then do a V-RESIZE to fill the whole 16x9 panel. Then save this as a preset. When I did it I got a resolution about 1280 W x 900-1000 H.

2nd way. Go to Aspect Ratio settings in options. Tick the checkbox - Restrict Aspect Ratio Adjustments to Height in Zoom Mode. This will only zoom/stretch in the vertical direction.

As a side note for ffdshow. Make sure in resize settings you select No Aspect Ratio Correction.

Thanks Tukkis,
I was beginning to wonder if I was the the only one who used ZP as my scaler.

I am indeed using the second method, though it says to untick if you've got a 16:9 display.

I've posted on the ZP forum to try and find out if this is normal behavior or if ZP is not handling 16:9 displays properly. Blight *has* stated that it was designed for 4:3.

I will look at your other suggestions as well.

thanks again,

Yeah when you have your desktop resolution as 4x3 eg. 1024 x 768 and select Anamorphic as the aspect ratio then 2.35 stretches only vertically.

When you have desktop resolution as 16x9 eg.1280x720 and do the same then it then puts it in a box within the screen. This happens because it expects your widescreen display to then stretch it width ways to put it back into proportion. Same way you have to set your standalone DVD player to 16x9 if you have a widescreen display. The display accepts the 4x3 shaped image and stretches it horizontally.

But because you have an anamorphic lens you want to stretch 16x9 to 21x9 to fit the 2.35 screen. Zoomplayer thinks you want 4x3 to 16x9 so it puts it in a box and expects your display/lens to stretch it.

So by doing Option 2 its only stretching in the vertical direction. You just have to make sure you select Derrived or Source when you watch 1.78/1.85 material otherwise you'll cut off the top and bottom.

Thanks again,
I just wish it realized I am using 1280 x 720 as unticking that aspect mode for 16:9 displays would suggest is what should happen.
