Hi everyone, I'm new to this, but I really need some input:

I just bought a HDTV with DVI it's a Toshiba 51H83

I have comcast in Virginia, and I hooked it up to the DVI and it says that it won't work because of HDCP restrictions.

So I called Comcast and they said that they do not support HDMI or DVI in this area, only component for HDTV and that the DVI and HDMI on their boxes will not work for anyone, just component.

I am curious if they are just blowing me off or if any of you have had the same experiences. Please let me know, as I am very concerned.

thanks

Loren Kruse.

I don't have any personal experience...but sounds like you possibly could be getting the run around. There really should be no reason that the HDMI and DVI would be restricted at this point. Evidently the HDMI and DVI ports are working since they are restricting you from viewing the video.

Try to find a cable installer in your area and get his opinion...sometimes you can hire these guys on the side to solve some of your more complexing problems and other cable/hook up runs. Never hurts to known one on a first name basis that you can call.

Comcast has been slow to activate features on their cable boxes (firewire, for instance). Chances are, they have the DVI port disabled in some way.

Does your cable box have a DVI port on it, or does it have an HDMI port and you are trying to use an HDMI to DVI converter?

If you are doing DVI to DVI, then the only reason for any trouble is if they have it disabled, or if they are using DVI-A and your set is looking for DVI-D.

If you are trying to use an HDMI to DVI converter, then HDCP could be the problem.

Either way, Comcast isn't providing the service you need.

Which box are you using?

Motorola DCT-5100 in SF Bay Area has DVI port activated and works with
any DVI device because it was pre-HDCP. I've display it on Sharp 45"
LCD and on Dell 2001FP via DVI digital connection.

I am using a Scientific Atlanta Box, in the Arlington Virginia area. It has a DVI port, and I am connecting it to a DVI/HDCP connection on my Toshiba.
