I'm trying to decide between the Samsung Slim model and the 2 30" Sonys. I've heard that despite the fact that they are all "1080i" they actually have different resolutions. Is this true? If so, which has the highest?

Bottom line, which would you recommend for best PQ?

Thanks

Hmmmmm, highest actual resolution 30" monitor, how about this:

Foshizzle (http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusiness/DisplayModel?m=0&p=8&sp=20073&id=57474)

Only $39k :)

Of the consumer CRTs, the Sony 30XS955 sports one of Sony's Super Fine Pitch screens widely accepted as having the highest resolution on direct-view CRTs.

Its VERY unlikely the Samsung has as fine a pitch screen.

I remember drooling over the professional stuff on the Sony site before... my favorite thing is this:

"The optional BKM-14L light probe is required for setup of the auto landing and auto uniformity operations which will simplify the setup of the monitor"

You pay 39k and you don't get the damn light probe to help you setup the auto landing... damn.

Suby is right the 30xs955 is the 30 inch champ bar none.

1080i simply means a set supports that as an input format, doesn't tell you what the screen can display for viewable resolution. CRTs have a dotpitch that limits the viewable resolution and only Sony has a super-fine-pitch HD CRT with a much higher viewable resolution than others.
