Hi,
I'm looking into a 2.35:1 screen with my Optoma H78, and going wider than what I have will give me less than cinema levels of reflectance. A 1.3 or 1.4 gain solution will fit the bill, and Carada make a 2.35:1 screen with an option on the 1.4 gain material.
Is anyone using this screen/material combination with a digital projector, and how does it fare regarding hotspotting or artefacts?
My first option was to make my own screen again using timber and stretching the material over it like I did with my 7ft 16:9 screen, but I might opt for the pre-made screen this time around.
Any info appreciated.
Gary.

I'm using the Carada CCW 88" 1.85 with an H77 and it is a stunning picture.
From the samples I had, I noticed zero hotspotting with the BW, but it did show any deficiencies in the projector or source material a little more than the CCW. But keep in mind that in my test setup the BW was reflecting a lot more light back and so it makes sense that I would see more artifacts. I imagine if you keep your setup around 12Fl - 15Fl this probably wont be an issue for you. For my particular setup the CCW produced a more film like image.
Order the free samples from Carada and take a peek for yourself. You'll be very happy matching the Carada up with your H78

Thanks for that info Chris, it sounds promising, :)
I'll drop Carada an email and see if they can send me the samples.

Well I went the other route... I have a 120'' Diagonal 2.35 Carada with the 1.4 BW material. It looks great with the PLV-60, no hotspotting. I went with the higher gain because I figured when zooming to get to 2.35 I would be losing light and the screen could compensate somewhat.
And it looks good in 16:9 as well. Artifacts are more noticable as mentioned but these can be tuned out somewhat by recalibrating to the screen and a slight de-focus. A matter of what you are willing to live with I guess.
Before this I had a home made canvas screen painted white and the Carada looks MUCH better! I was suprised by this. I think it is due to the flatness of the screen more than the gain, but not sure.
Get the samples and see for yourself. The samples are a bit small though, making it hard to "see" what the full screen will look like. But they are good for comparison between the two materials.

Thanks for the input Bebop,
I've had a look at some Vutek samples today, and their 1.3 bright white sample looks pretty good too, being marginaly brighter than the 1.2 material I'm using at the moment. Da-Lite's 1.3 is probably the same and that looks like an option.
I tried a sample of the Vutec Silverstar, and that's very bright! The screen semed to have some kind of texture/structure to it, so wasn't ideal, but it was bright. :)

I have a 128" 2.35:1 setup using carada BW. BenQ 8700+. NO hotspotting. FAntastic picture. Can't go wrong with Carada, IMO.

They certainly seem to have a good reputation, as well as being excellent value for money.
