View Full Version : How to tell what a video file really is

I have been using a htpc with TT and ffdshow for some time now. I only use the unsharp mask function in ffdshow because my processing power (1.3 Ghz celeron) isn't enough for resize. Anyway, I have always noticed that menus and trailers have some pretty severe stutter but the movie itself plays perfectly smooth. I always assumed this was because the movie was anamorphic and the menus and such were not. If post processing (ffdshow) is disabled everything including the non-anamorphic material plays perfectly without stutter but of course I like the improvement of the picture quality with it on so I just keep it on and wait to get past the menus. Again, the movie itself contains no stutter.

This has never been a problem until now. I have a custom made trailer that I would like to start using before the start of every movie. I have tried using tmpegenc to convert the avi to an anamorphic vob but it still stutters. Basically, all I need is the resulting trailer to be converted from whatever it is to exactly what an anamorphic movie would be but I can't seem to get there. Does anyone know what I should be checking for and what might assist with conversion?

Thanks.

My guess, is that the stuff that stutters on your system is 30fps, probably too much for your system. Film (most movies) is 24fps, which is probably enough less data that it works fine.
