Are SDI mods done to players transparent from a ROM update point of view? I have a Denon 3910 I want to get SDI modded, will this affect my ability to update to the latest ROM versions at all?

SDI mods are completely in hardware. They have no affect on the software and firmware a player runs whatsoever.

The mod basically consists of soldering ~12 wires between the pins on the MPEG decoder chipset or the cable carrying the video to the deinterlacing/scaling board and a small decoder card with a BNC connector on it. Usually it's fairly simple stuff (assuming you are confident with a soldering iron), but there are a few players which are inordinatly difficult to mod.
