Hello all,
I'm considering buying the LN-R238W, but its native res is 1366x768, and I'm curious as to how it will display 1280x720 PC games such as Half-Life 2 and Far Cry. Will the image be stretched, or centered in the screen with black bars all around? Has anybody tried this?

Hello,
I have the same television and can tell you that 1280x720 looks quite good through the VGA input. At 1280x720, the TV slightly scales the image to fit the screen. However, you're better off selecting 1360x768 as your resolution for your PC, as this yields 1:1 pixel mapping on the set. At this resolution, games look spectacular. Some games are obdurate when trying to achieve 1360x768, but they all have their way of displaying this resolution. Half-Life 2 and Far Cry both have in-game options where you can select 1360x768 right through the menus.

I have read reports that this set has problems scaling fonts and makes an audible noise. Do you have any problems with word processing programs reading letters or do you notice any hum or other electronic noise from the monitor when you have no sound turned on? If I get this set it will be used mostly for pc applications and internet usage.

Really? I never noticed 1360x768 in the Half Life 2 menu.

Discodol, the audible noise was noticed by me at first, but for some reason went away after a few hours of use. The monitor is crystal clear at its native resolution of 1360x768 and font is very easy to read, and there have been zero dead or stuck pixels. I write a lot in Word and find it to be very easy to read the font from three ft. away.
TheTallest, to get 1360x768 in Half-life 2, you have to select the 16:9 widescreen setting in the video options scrollbar.
