Closed Captioning over Component out

I have my Replaytv 5080 hooked to my Sony HDTV over the component out. The closed captioning does not work on this input. However, when I switch over to coax or S-video, the CC works just fine. Is this a known problem with component out on the Replay or does component video not support CC?

I could be wrong, but CC is NOT supported on the Replay's component out.

My Samsung HD STB is the opposite. It does not include CC (or the menus) in the S-Video signal.

Maybe it is different now, but in the past, there wasn't any standard for CC over component out. Any subtitles you saw over a component connection were generated by the source device, whether that be DVD player or STB.

Over svideo, Replay just passes the CC which is embedded in the signal (recorded by replay into mpg data, then reintroduced into VBI by NTSC encoder) and the TV generates the captions.

For component, Replay cannot embed the CC information in the signal and it doesn't have it's own caption generating circuitry, thus, no CC.
