I am looking for a receiver to replace my Pioneer Elite 45TX as a pre amp only. I want to pair it with my Rotel 985 MKll amp. I generally like the 45 TX but I find it a little to mellow sounding compared with the 635. I love the sound of the 635, but find it a little quirky in operation. Perhaps a 435 is all I need for pre amp duties ?
The 56TXi is a little more unknown for me. I am wondering how the sound and the operation of the MCACC has improved from the 45TX. I have a Denon 3910 DVD player and I was wondering will the 3910 work with the Denon i Link ?

As is being discussed in another current thread the three receivers are not in the same category price wise when looking at authorized dealers.
The Denon 3805 and the HK are close, but the 56TXi is several hundred dollars more.
All great receivers by the way and I was looking at all three before I made my final decision (3805) as well.
Good luck.

If you're only looking at pre-amp duties, the 435 lacks one or two small features that may (or may not) be important to you. Search for some posts by M-Code in the last day or two, he's gone over it in another post.

I want the receiver that has the best surround sound modes combined with flexibility.

Any more suggestions ?
I wonder if one of the digi HKs 1005/2005 would work for you. The digi HKs have analog 5.1 bass management, which was apparently removed from the 635 which the 630 has. Has all the same sound modes as the 635 (e.g. PLIIx that can overlay onto DTS or DD or 6ch analog; Logic 7), but MCode will know better. But, they don't have the autoEQ of the 635 or the same video transcoding/upconversion as the 635.

If surround modes and flexibility are an important feature for you, than you can't go wrong with a 635. Besides the standard fare, the 635's full-blown Logic-7 implimentation is excellent. While I generally use DPLIIx + DD/DTS for movies, I'm finding L7 more appealing for music. This is especially true with some of my older DD/DTS music discs, now that you apply L7 over these discrete recordings. They even have a large selection of other modes, which I haven't even tried since these ones are plenty.
I've also found that the EZ/EQ function not only tames my unruly bass, it also does a great job of stabilizing my center speaker, making trim adjustments on older, poorly recorded movies less necessary. I actually picked up a 635 as an interim piece after selling my Lex MC12...however, after hooking it up to my external amps, I'm not in as big a hurry to change that I once was. With it's flexible BM and other features, it has all I need until some other things shake out in the industry.

I like the 635 a lot. I figure with new models coming out, both the 56TXi and the 3805 might start coming down in price, probably to the 635's level. With those two I will get iLink which would go well with my Denon 3910 DVD player.

Is the 56TXi that much more improved over my 45TX ?
