Hello,

Looking at purchasing the Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver for my home theater and would like to know what people think about this unit good or bad.

Thanks Rick

It sounds good in movies and in stereo needs more work, and does not have the power it says, thats my two cents

I personally think it sounds awesome. Plus it has some sweet a/v switching options (component up conversion). I am perfectly happy with my yamaha as LOTS of others users here are. I don't think you will regret it. Take it home, audition it, and if you don't think it is up to par, return it. Just my $.02...

What are the biggest advantages over the v1500?

There are quite a few differences between them, some are major and some minor. Slightly more power, the number of available A/V inputs, the YPAO has some rather big differences in the YPAO options and the way it works, Zone 2 video, more sound modes.

I have a 2500 and like it alot now that I tweeked it to my liking. I used the auto setup and stored the setting. I use this for movies and it's nice. However, for music I did not like the way it sounded so I went to the GUI and set everything flat and tweeked it myself(the parametric eq). I too saved this setting. You can save up to 6 settings with 2 available with a press of the remotes button. All this is in the manual. As far as the 1500 is concerned I have heard the GUI is a little different, 1 less component connection?, 120x7 vs 130x7 and that is all I know. My 2500 runs hot when jammin or during a 2 hour movie so it needs plenty of ventilation. It has received super reviews from many publications and lots of users praise the 2500. I would say it's a good choice.
