ok, please bear with me as im a novice with this at the moment...

I have a HTPC, im using a sound blaster audigy platinum connected to my pioneer vsx-1014 stereo receiver using the optical output in the drivebay.

I'm trying to set it up for the best possible sound (primarily used for music), but there are many different variables and would appreciate some advice on choosing surround modes and selecting which digital output mode to use.

Currently, my pc is set to output digital 5.1 @ 48KHz, is that ok or should I set it to 6.1 or 7.1 @ 96KHz ? or just leave it?

Secondly, my VSX-1014; should I set that to use

Pro Logic IIx Music
or
THX Pro Logic
or
Advanced Music

There are alot of different modes.. most of which can be further tweaked once selected, but I dont know which one would probably be best to stick with and tweak, ive tried switching between them but the volume sometimes changes so its hard to tell which one is better.

I currently have a powered subwoofer, front L+R, surround L+R, and a center channel connected. I am not utilizing the surround back speakers as of yet.

any suggestions / constructive criticism would be great

thanks in advanced

It's really up to you. You choose your surround mode from your reciever, not the HTPC. So it's like connecting a PCM 2 channel CD player and the reciever does the rest.
You will only get DD/DTS passthrough w/ DVD's. People seem to like matrixed DPLII for 2 channel. I personally listen to 2 channel PCM w/ 2 speakers w/my HTPC...
