View Full Version : Is sagging an issue with articulated mounts?
I am planning on getting the Peerless PLA-1 articulated mount for my new 55" Hitachi based on other readers' threads. I was wondering if anyone had issues with sagging over the years using one of these or the Sanus VMAA or the dual arm articulated units?
Thanks
I have a PLA-2 (same arm, different wall mount plate and adapter where it attaches to the plasma mounting plate). I only have about 1.5" gap (see gallery) between the bottom of the plasma and the top of a cabinet, so I was really worried about sag.
Luckily, even with all of my weight (170+ LBs) it sags less than 1/4". Since the PLA-1 is even heavier duty than the PLA2 (and with more adjustment options) I don't think you'll have any problems.
It is a VERY sturdy mount.
Good luck!

I have the Sanus VMDD for my new Hitachi 55", and this sucker is as solid as the rock of Gibralter! I have about 3/4" between the bottom of the display and the top of the cabinets, and once I adjusted it level, it hasn't moved at all. I have pulled it out from the wall all the way many times, and then moved it right back into place without a hitch. It will hold 175# (the Hitachi weighs 130#), but even figuring in the geometry of something 20" out from the wall from time to time, it is so over-built that it just won't budge. Plus, it is really sweet looking when you do pull it out and look at it!

Does the wall plate provided with the VMDD work with 24” stud spacing?
I just put a Pio 5050 on a Peerless PLA-1 over the weekend. I too was wondering how it was going to work out. But wow, this thing is solidly built.

I have a 50", which weighs about 110 lbs (according to the specs) on a Peerless PLA-1, fully extended, 24-7 at a 45° angle for over 2 months now and no sign of sag.
I believe the Peerless PLA-1 is rated to 150 lbs by UL, which means the 'pullout' weight is about 600 lbs if properly mounted.

Yes, it has multiple holes available for different spacing.

I've had a Panasonic 42" plasma on a Peerless articulating arm mount for about three years. No sign of sagging. Very solid construction. Love the thing and I use it all the time - angling the plasma for side viewing, pulling the plasma out closer to me when I feel like it.
I'll definitely want my next plasma on an articulating arm mount too.
