I left it in 16:9 enhanced mode for about an hour yesterday and now it has this dark part about half an inch tall that goes across the whole screen. Is that the way it's supposed to be or did I cause burn-in by doing that? If so, is there any way to fix it?

edit: I had the 16:9 enhanced mode with the vivid setting (with the brightness turned up from 50% to 85% and color turned up to that as well.) but it was only for six of the twelve hours! and it's only been here since yesterday at 2:00 P.M.!

And no, it's not the dark tube around, it's on the top about a 1/4 inch long. it's 90% un-noticeable when the tv is on. but when it's off, it bugs me bad. (I have OCD.)

Is there a way to fix this burn-in? I had the picture at the vivid setting with picture turned up 100% and brightness 80% for about 45 minutes. I know thats bad but if i was using 16:9 enhanced mode and it was only 45 minutes. Is there anyway without spending more then $50 or calling a repair guy to fix it? Thanks.

Also, I just got it yesterday. I hope this can be fixed under warranty. I know CRT's are prone to burn-in but not as bad as rear projection tv's. 45 minutes should not do that! I mean, rear projection say no more then an hour but this was only 45 minutes! And it's not the whole part of the 16:9 either just about 1/3 of the top part. that's kinda weird to me. What should I do? Is there a service setting I can use to fix it? Or What? Please help. Thanks. Like I said I have OCD so it's really bugging me.

I use to own that model and I never experienced burn-in. You should still be able to get it replaced under warranty though.

Make this Samsung's problem and request a replacement. I wouldn't go so far as to say you ran it on "torch mode" for any length of time. I'm not encouraging dishonesty, just don't offer any more info than you have to. You just got this set and should expect better of the manufacturer.

This s/b a warranty call and free to you.

Two things.

1. Didn't buy the warranty from Circuit City.

2. False alarm, it's just a "shadow" caused by the main light in my room. It's noticeable when it's on but if the blinds are open or no light's in the room at all, it's normal. So sorry.

No need to be sorry. We're all committed to getting the best PQ we can get out of our sets. I am really glad for you that you haven't suffered burn-in.

About the warranty - Even though you didn't buy an "extended" warranty, you still have the basic warranty from Sony. And you only just got this set, so any trouble you have will be Sony's problem for quite some time.

Enjoy! ;)
