It seems from posts I have read that a lot of them only last 18 months to 2 years. I am interested in either the S97 or S77, but not if they don't last long.

The first S77 that I picked up in the beginning of June only lasted three weeks; it just quit reading discs. I've had my new one for a week now with no problems. I honestly think that I just got a bad build.

I purchased my RV80 in 2001, still going strong.

My DSR-H2 or whatever has worked flawlessly since I bought it, either 3 or four years ago.

I gave my mom my Panasonic A310 player back in 2000. I bought the first player that arrived in North America (well, maybe it was number 100 heh) - 1997. It still works, although for a few months I had the dual-layer change chapter skip problem that miraculously went away. The damn thing still works.

I picked up a Panasonic RP91 back in 2001. It still works.

If would probably make alot of sense to seperate the more recent Pannys from those of say 2 or more years ago. Spindle motor issues etc, are apparently a thing of the past, so this poll will be pointless unless you do seperate teh two.

Yeah, you are probably right! I think it is the most recent models of the last 3 years that seem to be less reliable. Maybe I can modify the poll.

Good observation! Thanks

My RV30 has been going for about 5 years or so. No problems or issues. Looking to get a new one and move this one upstairs to the bedroom.

DVD-XP50 - two years and still going strong
DVD-S97 - more than eight months

Neither player has developed a failure.

I voted based on my RV-31, but I also have an XP50 that's doing just fine. BTW, the XP50 is a super player.

RP-56 still going strong after 4 years now, in another room so it doesn't see as much action.

I love my RV-32. I think it's pushing four years. It still puts out a great picture and is not bad on CD playback either. About once a year, discs will start skipping, so I put a cleaner disc in, and it then works fine until the next time. I'm probably close to 1,000 hours on it.

Interestingly, I recently saw some of these new in an electronics clearance store for about $30.
