I'm looking forward to the next level in video performance, however I don't want to crawl in my attick again to install an HDMI cable. If I buy a first gen player thats HD, will it have any issues with black or white "crush" when using the DVI to HDMI adapters? Also, has this "crush" issue been solved on the newer upconverting regular DVD players yet? If so, please let me know what models they are 'cause HD DVD isn't going to be in my budget for atleast a year or two....much thanks in advance,

Hold your horses there KBMAN :) , no one can comment with any accuracy on what the new HD resolution players can or can't do or forseen problems known or unknown. It would be pure conjecture, which I would be hard pressed to see what purpose it would really serve ? Not trying to rain on your parade, but questions with acurate answers on this topic is about 5 months (most likely more) away.

I'm cool with that, and I know the question was a shot in the dark, but how 'bout the current upconverting players and the crush issues...which players have the bug and which don't? I'm getting tired of my bravo and would like somthing, lets say, less fisher price? Don't get me wrong, the picture is still great but other than that it is a POS.

The ATSC high-def formats use the ITU-R 709 colour space, so there shouldn't be any issues with green push in the players unless the manufacturers screw up royally.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the DVD playback on a HD-DVD/Blu-ray player won't suffer from this problem.

Neither do numerous other upscaling DVD players. What's your point?

From what I have read 'round the net, the black & white crush issue has NOTHING to do with HDMI-to-DVI as there is no conversion between the two.. only a connector adapter. The problem was in the HDMI chipset on the players and the crush is there when you use HDMI as well. It's just that when HDMI first appeared (and therefore the problem) DVI inputs were common on TV's but not HDMI. Therefore the problem got blamed on the adapters and not where it should have properly been pegged.. on the players.

Also from what I've read the newer HDMI chipsets have resolved the issue.

Actually, you're not quite right. The problem was in the HDMI chipset. However, at least in the big discussion here a while back, the problem did not happen HDMI->HDMI. It happened HDMI->DVI when the HDMI chipset was given YCbCr and had to convert to RGB for DVI. Head and toe room (BTB and WTW) were clipped. I suppose with one of these "bad" chipsets, if you had to the option of selecting RGB over HDMI->HDMI, the problem may happen if YCbCr was fed to the chipset. But, this possibility never came up in discussion.

And, not to nit-pick :), discussion of HD players should be done in one of the HD forums.
