I plan to set my Monitor 7s to LARGE and the AVR-635 to SUB L/R+LFE with my VTF-2 MKII. I'll probably set the crossover (high pass) to 60 or 80 Hz.

1) High Pass clarification: these settings mean that the sub will produce up to 60/80 Hz but the fronts will continue to have full range, since they are set to LARGE, right?

2) Low Pass confusion: The manual reads: "The LFE LP FLT line adjusts the frequency cutoff of the low pass filter that determines the frequency at which information is sent to the subwoofer when playing a digital soundtrack that has a dedicated low frequency effects channel. In most cases the default frequency of 120Hz is appropriate, since that is the frequency most commonly used in the creation of LFE channels during a movie’s sound mixing process."

2a) If my sub goes up to 90 Hz, is 90 Hz the appropriate low-pass setting?
2b) If I set it to 90 Hz, and there is an LFE effect at 110 Hz, will that be sent to my mains?
2c) If I left it at 120 Hz, would I have a bunch of localized LFE between 90 and 120? Or would I not hear it at all?

The 635's default setting is 100Hz, you should experiment a little to see what works best for your ears... Note that 100Hz is @-3dB point so there will still be some frqeuencies >100Hz but they will be rolling off @ steep slope..

I guess I don't understand why the manual states that 120Hz is the frequency most commonly used in the creation of LFE channels during a movie’s sound mixing process if anything above ~90Hz can be localized.

I asked Harman about the large, small settings.
I was told that when speakers are set to "large" and there is no sub, the full range to the speakers is down to 20 htz.

If the speakers are set to large and the sub setting is selected, then the 635 sets the xover between the "large" speakers and the sub @ 40htz.
When speakers are set to "large" the xover can't be changed.

Thx for the response 4DHD. I guess that explains why the xover changes, even after I do a manual ezset. But that doesn't preclude me from changing it to whatever I want after the ezset is completed, right?

Am I correct that the LFE LP FLT xover setting has no effect unless the bitstream has a dedicated LFE track?

I am asking because in Logic 7 mode (with my DirecTivo and stereo programs), I'm getting low voice frequencies in the sub even though I have the crossover at 80Hz in the LFE LP FLT.

My fronts are set at 60Hz xover, so I don't know where these frequencies are coming from. I've been leaving my sub xover on at 90hz to cancel this out, although I've been told not to use both the sub and receiver xover.
