I just want to confirm I did the right thing for the settings on my tv for the start of my 100 hour break in. I changed it from vivid to cinema and went into the picture menu and lowered the picture and brightness to 0. Is 0 low enough.
Also is playing a dvd on a loop a good way to break in a plasma?

Haven't really had time to enjoy the set yet but so far it is everything I hoped it would be and I cant wait to get it wall mounted.

Also is playing a dvd on a loop a good way to break in a plasma?Just make sure that (A) the DVD player doesn't screw up and freeze an image on the screen overnight, and (B) the DVD is a full screen that completely fills the screen and NOT have any black bars anywhere for obvious reasons :)

It's funny how in the computer world running a newly-built computer for several hours before putting it to use is called "Burning it in" but the same phrase when applied to a Plasma's first 100+ hours scares the bejeesus out of us

Thanks Randy,
I actually opted to just leave my cable box on with HBO on, the picture is zoomed to fill the screen. Seems to be working good so far.

As long as HBO doesn't display a static Bug on the screen for a hundred hour (i don't have HBO so i don't know if they use a Bug or not.....).

BH- Are you running HD or SD programming? How does the set look? I am still waffling between this one and the 37" ED 8UK, mostly of being nervous how SD material would look.

I am actually very surprised how good 90% of the SD has looked so far. I have my SA Explorer 8300 from comcast hooked up via component and the SD looks great. The only bad picture I encountered was from my local CN8 brodcast of a football game.

I have the consumer 37 HD set and the SD looks pretty good. Not great but good enough for me. However, I don't watch much SD on the set since it's in the bedroom and I have an HD DVR.

I have another question. I probably have 12 hours on this set now. Should I not watch the HD feed of Monday Night Football on it because of the different score boxes that stay in one place from time to time? Would love to catch the game from the comfort of my bed instead of the recliner in my theater.

No worries, it won't hurt anything. Just enjoy the game in HD !!

For the heck of it, try also connecting the S-Video or yellow Composite connection to the TV, swith to that input, and see if there is any improvement on the analog channels. Sometimes it looks a little better (or a LOT better in the case of my Pioneer 3510HD!). You can toggle between the two inputs using your Recall key and do a back to back comparison.

PS: SD looks great on my 42PX50 via S-Video or Composite :)
