I'm trying to use an autoswitch for the digital optical since my receiver only has one digital input and the ReplayTV optical output seems to be active even when the unit is off.
This wouldn't be a problem if one of my other units didnt also exhibit the same behavior thus allowing the autoswitch to not work correctly.
Is there a way to have the digital audio only output when the unit is on?

Nope, if the Replay's on it's on.

So by "on" you mean plugged in? because mine is on even though the unit is technically "off" i understand replays are never actually off, but you canstop the video and audio outs by turning the power "off". this doesnt work with digial audio?

i've run into this annoying "feature" on more than a few devices ( cable box , dvd player etc ) but about 1 in 5 devices i have seen DO turn off the audio out when turned off. ( ya sales guys in the stores look at me weird when i walk around with a fiber cable , testing all their units )
i think the only soultion is an a/b switch for fiber ( i've seen it before , just dont have the link atm ).
and just an FYI , comcasts hdpvr ( motorola ) also will not turn off the fiber when switched off.

the 3 way switch in the middle of the page
It's a know problem with the replayTV... and IT SUCKS! But it's so low a priority I'd guess they'll never even look at it.
I complained like you wouldn't beleive about this because I was actually wanting to hook the replay up to a component video switcher that uses priority channels to decide which device is "active" the replay's always on optical line was keeping a line always live and it just didn't work out well. I can't remember the specifics, but needless to say I did something else.
