I purchase a plasma, the TH-50PX500U. It hasn't arrived yet however I want to be ready when it does. What cables or anything else should I have on hand?

Thx

Wow, this is a really open ended question, as for basic connection it's going to depend on what your source is and how you want to connect it. You can go, component, HDMI, or cable card to start with.

What kind of response are you looking for? You haven't even made the effort to inform us of what equipment you intend to connect to the set and what kinds of outputs that equipment has. What kinds of inputs does the set have. Is the manual downloadable from Panasonic's web site? Can you put just a little more effort into this if you're asking people to spend their time to help you?

I'm a beginner and I have a 8300HD Scientific Atlanta CableBox and also a VCR. I will be purchasing other devices but for now this is it. I'm just looking for what the best output is from the cablebox to the 50" plasma is.

Either component or HDMI will work well from the SA8300HD. Just be aware you do not need to spend $100+ on an HDMI cable, there are available on-line ~$25.

Are you going to wall mount the TV or use the stand. If wall mounting, you may want to get a variety of cables and connect them to the TV all at the beginning to save yourself a headache down the road.

I'm leaning toward wall mounting it. When you say get a variety of cables are you suggesting this just so they are available for use should I choose to?

That is for sure. Do not pay retail for your cables.

If you are wall mounting, what mount are you getting? If it is tilt getting the connections to the Plasma are not a problem after the install. look at what you are going to connect and buy the cables before hand. Try for at the least componet connections, DVI, or HDMI. Everything else does have signal loose.

If you need a mount, these are nice and cheap. Sanus VLMP.

I used an Omnimount Tilt which works real well, especially since this set is a bit thicker than most other plasmas.
