Well, when I first saw the sony LCD that just came out 40", I thought it looked amazing, and crisp compared to the plasmas. I went home and cried that night because I just bought the 42"500U plasma from panasonic.

I went back again to look at the Sony, and they were playing some sort of HDTV show with a band playing.. the picture quality sucked.. so many jaggies and blocks, not smooth at all.

I am happy now

LCDs look crisp at stores because of the strong lighting. Plasmas look less good at stores because of more screen reflections and because the better black level doesn't show. In a dim lit room which you normally have at home (especially when you're watching movies) plasma looks better than in stores, while LCD usually looks less good than in stores.

So don't worry, for TV and movie watching you most probably have made the right choice.

I've seen the highs, and I've seen the lows. When I was done, flat panel LCD was the only way to go!!!!!

I've been debating on LCD or Plasma too for far to long. As mentioned below, they both have their highs and lows. Its what "lows" you can live with that typically determines what you'll like. For me I've decided that I prefer LCD for a variety of reasons over plasma displays.
