View Full Version : Horizontal line scrolling vertically on 50phd8UK

I'm noticing a horizontal line slowly scroll vertically upwards on my 8UK. I can see it on DVDs and cable (SD and HD). My DVD player (Onkyo) and DCT5100 STB both connect to individual component inputs on my Onkyo SR702 receiver. The receiver then outputs the signal via component to the TV.

I've played with some of the TV, DVD and STB options to make sure it isn't some built-in screen saver. I'm thinking its some kind of interference, but I want to be sure. The line is hardly noticeable and is similar to the lines you see on videotaped PC screens where the refresh rate is out of sync with the video recording speed.

Any thoughts, ideas, help or links will be greatly appreciated. :)

I think I've found some possible answers...ground loop. I'll see if I can get it taken care of.

Yep sounds like ground loop to me . I had ground loop coming from my Dish 6000 used an AC plug adapter on power cord turns 3 prong into 2 and it went away.

I hooked up my DVD, CD, receiver, STB and coax to a Monster Powerbar (came with my TV) and the issue seems to be gone. The TV is still plugged into a regular grounded outlet by itself. Things look great now, but I may get a surge protector/conditioned for the TV if I can find one that is small enough and can hide easily.

Thanks for this thread guys! You've both saved me extensive aggravation. Same problem, same TV, same solution (AC plug adapter).

I have the same issue on a brand new Sony klv-s26a10 I just bought. A horizontal bar that scrolls from bottom to top slowly. More noticeable on solid backgrounds. Looks like when you watch a picture of a computer moniter on tv. I have the sony 3 prong plug in a three prong outlet. I have it connected with s-video out of my reg def sa 8000 box into an onkyo reviever and then s-video into the sony. Suggestions? If this is just some power ground issue that would be no big deal as I am currently older home with questionable wiring. Soon will be in a new construction. However I want to make sure I dont have a problem with the sony and wont be able to test in another location for 2 weeks.
