View Full Version : Powerstrip forcing me to multiples of 8???

I'm trying to setup powerstrip:

setup:
display: 32" HiSense tl3200 LCD, 1366x768, the EDID says Hitachi and is totally wrong, but it might be OEM hitachi I don't know.
video card: ATI 9600XT

The steps I took:
First I set up a custom driver with powerstrip.
Then...
Open powerstrip.
Enter Display configuration
Click custom timings
On left, click custom resolutions
On left side of screen, select "1366x768 @ 60 Hz (LCD)"
But on right side of screen, it shows up as 1368, I cannot change it either.
On right side, click on "add new" (not sure the exact name of button here) so it shows up in the dropdowns.
Restart.

It seems I even if I select 1366 and try to add it, I cannot. It will only let me choose 1368 or 1360. On the "custom timings" screen, I can change the timing but not the resolution. Changing timing enough causes the resolution to jump by 8 bits one way or the other.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Also, does anyone know what refresh rate I should pick? My LCD supposedly has 8ms refresh.

The one Powerstrip defaulted to to pick was 59.877, but that was really jerky when watching HD. So I tried a few different ones, 60.000 works out the best, but every few seconds I see a little jerk, like the refresh is just off and some frames are skipped. That's really driving me nuts.

But I wonder if I can get it to do 1366 will that make the refresh rate line up too?

I've tried ones lower than 59.877, and 59.9, 59.45, 59.50, 59.95, 60, 60.05, 60.1 none of those worked. 60.000 looks the closest but it's still wrong.

I'm no expert but I believe Powerstrip limits you to multiples of 8 because PCs require that.

Have a look at this FAQ (http://entechtaiwan.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20)...

ok duh. I did not read closely enough, everyone is setting it to 1368, I thought people had gotten it to work. Powerstrip just let me override the EDID to do it without the panning. Man and I spent hours reading over all the posts :-)

I have a hisense tl3220, not sure if it much different from your, but I tried the dvi cable on the screen and I can only get maximum resolution of 1280x1024. When using the vga cable, I can select the resolution of 1360x768 which is close enough. I have messed around with powerstrip in custom ini files for the screen, but I was unable to get it to work. Everything becomes large and i have to pan around to see everything. I am using an ati 9800pro with latest catalyst driver from ati. Please let me know if you where able to resolve your issue.

sorry I just read this.
I did this:

First create custom driver file:
Start powerstrip
go to options->preferences
CLick Quick Setup
Hit Change button next to Attached Monitor
Enter fields telling it new size and refresh rates.
Save file

Load driver file:
Go to system manager
Say you want to update the driver for the monitor
Tell it you want to pick the driver
Pick the file you just created

Now, well I restarted I don't know if you have to

Go back to powerstrip
Display profiles -> configure
Hit Advanced Timing Options button
Hit Custom Resolutions button
On left, under predefined, click on 1366x768@60hz (LCD) so it's highlighted
Click on Add New Resolution

Restart when prompted

Go back to powerstrip
Display profiles -> configure
adjust slider at top right to pick the new res
select Custom Timing just below it
Hit Apply
It should work.
If it does, hit save as

If you hit Advanced Timing you can change the refresh to try to get 1368 but I gave up.

If it doesn't work, since you've added the new resolution, you can right-click on the desktop and use the regular picker. Or catalyst.

I actually had to repeat the above a ton of times and swore a lot. I'm sure my neighbors are happy it's done. But that's the basics I hope it works.
