I recently went to Tweeters and put $200 bucks down on this TV..
I got the 34 inch widescreen HDTV KD34XS955, a TV stand for it and a 5 year warrenty. My total price was 1000 even..
Anyway my question is, was this a good deal? is it a good TV for HDTV watching and VIdeo gaming?
I was looking at the Samsung Slim Fit TV but after reading about all their problems I decided against it
Not familar with that particular Sony, but have a 4 year old 34" XBR and my friend has the new Samsung Slim Fit.
The Sony's picture is superb and the Samsung's is fair at best.

$1k USD? Are you sure?
That is a phenomenal price for the TV alone. Sony's MSRP is $1699

I'm 100% positive I have the receipt right here with the prices and model #'s, See it was there LAST one so I bought the display model, but I figured who cares I have a 5 year warrenty

Well, I would say that you got an amazing deal. 34XS955, Stand & 5 year, for 1k? That's awesome!
I know that retailers tend to cranck the contrast/brightness up pretty high in showrooms, so that would be the only thing I'd worry about, if everything else looked okay.. But you did get the extended warranty, so you should be ok!
I have the 30XS955, and I am very pleased with it.

sweet :) so I guess I should have a decent TV. The only thing I am worried about is that maybe they lied about the model #. When I checked out pics on the internet the cosmetics looked the same as far as design and shape, BUT the pics online make the TV look silver and the TV in the showroom was more of a dark grey almost blue like tint

thats the correct color, the KV34HS420 is silver and the XS955s are grey
the XBR960 is blue grey

well I think they are screwing me then b/c the XS955 are better right? and the one I saw was really more blue then anything

no the XBR960 is the top of the line, the XS955 is the same TV with less features and the Hs420 is the entry level CRT, less features with older lower res tube
but either way you would not be getting screwed on an open TV for that much with warranty and stand
