Hello everyone,
I currently own a Loewe Articos 30"
This TV has by far the best picture quality of any TV I've ever seen (sorry Aconda 38" owners). Unfortunately, I just moved to a new house and the distance between my couch and my TV is 13 feet (I was 6 feet away at my previous house...the PERFECT viewing distance for a 30" TV). As much as I LOVE my TV, I now need something bigger. Has anyone ever seen a TV that has the same picture quality as the Articos? If not, is there one that's going to be released soon? The only TV I've ever seen that was 99% as good was the Sony Qualia 70" (which I saw at CEDIA in Sept.) and it looked incredable...as long as you were more than 7 feet away. Someone told me that JVC's new 70" TV was even better than Sony's. I don't necessarily need something that big. In fact, if Sony had put the same technology into their 50" model, I probably would have already bought it.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's a hell of a nice TV you have there my man.
If you upgrade, my advice to you would be simply: Make sure it's an APPRECIABLE upgrade across the boards. Make it worth your while.
Consider maybe the Sony SXRDs? If you have the money, obviously the Qualias are incredible, but expensive.
For 13 feet (I'm assuming your viewing distance is NOT negotiable?) you'd sure like 50 inches!
It sounds like you're ready to leave the tube market. Everyone knows how picky I am about PQ. If I had a viewing distance I could NOT negotiate past say....8-10 feet? I'd almost certainly save up and buy the Sony SXRD 50 incher myself, if I had to make a move today. I'd really be pulling hairs to have any serious complaints about that TV after demoing it myself last week for a while.
Home Theater Magazine reviewed the SXRD in their latest issue and deemed it THE best RPTV they had ever reviewed and said the black levels were damned near CRT level. The contrast ratio was something amazing like 13,000:1 or something.

Thanks for your reply. Have you had a chance to demo the Qualia 70"? I believe Tweeter stores are starting to display them. I wonder how the Qualia compares to the SXRD 50"?
I'll be attending CES in January. I'm debating whether it's worth waiting to see what people have to offer then and what the price drops are. Any thoughts on possible upcoming products?

20 inches of extra size...hard for me to really break it down for you beyond that. You'd have to see it for yourself and compare, but, honestly...I think the 50 inch SXRD is a "better value."
Both are amazing TV's. Make no mistake. The Qualias have also gotten insanely high reviews from just about any credible source you could name.
But, you're going to pay big bucks. You'd have to decide what you want, which features, how big, and what you're willing to spend.

Well, we're near the end of the year. Usually that's about the end of any new products coming out, is it not?
If you can wait another cycle, that would be ideal for the following reasons:
1.) Prices go down.
2.) You get a 1080p display that actually has an input that ACCEPTS a native 1080p signal from an external source.
As you well know, the longer you wait, the better off you will be.
CES is going to tell you (and a lot of us) what's yet to come. If I were you, if you can, wait until AFTER CEDIA before you make a purchase. :)

the Sony SXRDs are basically a smaller version of qualia (006??? I think)
Sony has just released the Qualia 005 as well, it is a 46" 1080p LCD using true red, blue and green LCDs
which is suppose to be dramatically better than the current LCDs
also Fujitsu plasmas, Pioneer Elite Plasmas, Panasonic Onyx plasmas
would be on the top of my list
if you want a non panel, I think the LCoS (SXRDs) would be the only option since tubes are too small
the new SXRDs have a finer pitch as than the qualia as the screens are smaller yet maintaining the same resolution, meaning no SED

Good for you. You are going to end up with a fantastic set. Hopefully, you can keep your Loewe as a second set. They were cleared out from Magnolia Hi-Fi for $450. I wish I had known in time.
Anyone else heard that the Qualia line was being dropped due to lack of sales vs. price point? Can't remember the article I read, but I think it was in an issue of The Perfect Vision.....

In responce to a few posts:
I also heard the Qualia line was being dropped and replaced with a new line to be released at CES.
I am going to keep the Articos as a bedroom set...I would NEVER get rid of it :)
I could only find the Qualia 005 as a Japanese model for $10,000. Were you thinking of the right one? I do like all of the plasma's you named, but all of them are around the same price as the Qualia (I think) which might actually have slightly better picture quality. Also, you (kny3twalker) said:

I actually got a chance to see all of the SXRD's side-by-side with the Qualia 006 in the middle of them at CEDIA and the Qualia absolutely blew them all away. That's what attracted me to the set in the first place.
