I have a 32HFX72, it is an HDTV ready TV, and I have an SD Direct TV STB.

The picture is not that good at this point, and I was wondering how the TV should be set up based on the menus.

For instance:

What is flesh tone? How should this be set for DVD and for Direct TV?

What is DNR?

What is SVM?

What should the color temperature be set at?

Would there ever be a reason to use a mode other then normal for the aspect size? Like Letterbox or compress?

I understand AV things to some extent, I just don't understand these specific uses and purposes in the Toshiba menu.

Thanks for all your help!

Just the standard picture menu, how do you get to the service menu?
Hello?
The user manual describes these settings, particularly on pages 41 through 43. A .pdf copy of the manual is found at: http://tacpservice.toshiba.com/ConsumerProductSupport/Manuals/TV/2002/32hfx72_36hfx72_r1_ownman.pdf

I have a Toshiba 36hf73 which is very similiar to your model and I can tell you SD material does not look great on this set. DVD is good but more video noise noted then some other sets. HDTV material is outstanding. I also have a Panasonic 34" inch HDTV and the cable looks alot better and the dvd playback is better with less noise. My toshiba looks good from a distance but when you get close you see alot of pixelating micro movements which I do not see on the Panasonic. Have tweaked the setting and nothing seems to help. I have the color on normal. Not a bad set. For HDTV it is great.
