DENON 3805 setup help please

I've had a 3805 for 18 months and love it. I just purchased a scalar and have it connected to the 3805 via component cables. Previously, the 3805 acted as a video switcher. Now, I'd like the the scaler to take over this function.

I've connected video outs from my dvd player, pc, tivo, etc to the scaler. The scalar output goes arbitrarily to the "DVD" (Video 2 ) input of the 3805
All audio outputs still go from the devices directly to the 3805.


If I want to play the TV, I switch the 3805 to TV and then manually switch the input to DVD.
If I want to play the VCR, I switch the 3805 to VCR1 and then manually switch the input to DVD.
If I want to play the Tivo, I switch the 3805 to VCR2 and then manually switch the input to DVD.

In each case, I switch the scalar to the proper video input.

etc,etc.

OK, so here's my question:

So far, I haven't figured out how to either setup the 3805 to know that the TV,VCR1, and VCR2 buttons always need to get the input from "DVD" (video2), or alternatively switch the video signal via the remote control instead of using the input video select knobs on the 3805.
(actually my remote is an MX800, so if I knew what ir codes would enable the switching, I'd be home free)

Can any one help me out?

I'm not quite following your stream, but I have an MX800 and 3805 too; can't you just use the IR Db inside the MX800 editor? mine has all the codes for the various inputs.

Also, are you trying to have the Denon play one input for the audio [ie VCR1], and another input for the video [DVD]? I didn't think you could split that up.

Yes. I can do it manually, but don't know how to do it with the remote:

1. Use remote to select VCR1
2. Push Video Select Button Manually
3. Manually Use Function knob to change from source to dvd


This sequence will keep audio input from VCR1 and use video from DVD

the problem is that as soon as you use the remote to select another audio source, say DBS, and then use the remote to go back to VCR1, the video goes back to source

i just saw something about "video input mode" on page 21 of the manual. The text says "Set the input signal to be output from the monitor output terminal".

Can you hardcode DVD there?

I've got a PDF of the manual if you want it. I got it off the Denon site.

Let me know if this works - that's pretty darn cool, and I may need to look into this feature.

Don't think so.
For DVD the options are auto (which I believe means select component first if available, then svideo, then video), or hardcode it to component, svideo, or video.

Problem solved!

There is an ir code for the video select but apparently no button on the 3805 remote. I downloaded the Denon 4800 database for my MX800 and I'm in good shape.
