"It is accurate that at this time we will not support high-definition [on Revolution]." - Perrin Kaplan, vice president of corporate affairs, Nintendo of America

As of today, HD will not be supported on the Nintendo Revolution. We maintain that this is a bad idea, both for the experience of HDTV gamers and for Revolution's ultimate performance in the marketplace.

If you'd like to see HD on the Revolution, please head to the Take Action! page, and then tell your friends about this site. Perhaps together, our combined voice can make a difference.

If you're not up-to-speed on this issue yet, you can learn about HDTV, read up on the timeline of events, or hear what people are saying about it.

Also, please check out the FAQ, where we explain ourselves and our mission more clearly.

Interesting to see if Nintendo takes notice on this.

There should still be plenty of time for HD support (optional at least) to be added.

While I am sceptical that any petition would have an effect, hopefully some engineer at Nintendo can catch Iwata in a rare coherent moment and convince him to allow HD.

I think Iwata is very coherent. The former president, on the other hand, not so much . . . hehe.

Since the system is atleast 6 months away, it is feasible for nintendo to possibly add a HD "slot" for people who want to buy an add on...this would allow them to keep costs low for the average buyer. Just one idea I thought of....but we all know how well add ons typically do with consoles...

One of the best features on the N64 was the memory card addon. I wish console makers would go back to that. I know many people would pay for another 512 to be added to their consoles to allwo higher reoloutions. The N64 developers were able to make games that could run on a "vanilla" system and "enhanced" in the same game so no reason folks could not today.

You are talking about the 'jump pack' right?
I remember when Turok came out and it was soooo much better with the jump pack.

It is a memory upgrade for the N64 and was supported by several games at the end of the systems life cycle:

4 MB RAM cartridge that inserts into top of Nintendo 64
Brings console to 8 MB of contiguous main memory
Can increase screen resolution from 320 x 240 pixels to 640 x 480 pixels
Can allow games to have larger worlds, longer animation sequences, and more complex gameplay
Required for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Donkey Kong 64, and more

Yes I do believe that was called the jump pack.
If you pick up a used N64 ask to make sure it's in there. Some have them & some don't.

N64 memory was unified, thus the framebuffer was in main memory. On GameCube and Revolution, the framebuffer is embedded. This makes it very unlikely that a memory-pack add-on would be technically fesible, unless the graphics chip supports tiled rendering a la Xbox 360. Since both are ATI, I suppose it is possible, but it seems highly unlikely.

In any case, it wouldn't be enough. The graphics chip is being scaled to render at 480p resolutions, not HD resolutions. Any game that chose to support HD would have their work cut out for them and the lack of fillrate would be as big a problem as memory.

Regardless, I'm not too worried about the lack of HD support. While I currently have an ED plasma, I'm planning on upgrading to an HD set, but it doesn't really bother me too much. And I don't think it will affect Nintendo's sales particularly, if they hit one of the rumored low price points.

I'm one of a few who actually doesn't have a problem with ED plasma. I think Plamsa looks better than some of the other technologies even at 720p to 480p comparison.
I think plasma just looks generally better but hidef sources look better anyway.
For me, I'll probably run my Revolution to my ED set so 480p will be just fine. Of course I would just like Nintendo to support HD because I am a Nintendo AND HD fan so I think they are both important to me.

The Rev. needs at least 720p if not 1080i. 480p just doesn't cut it these days. Especially on larger screens.

What do you think about 1080p? Several members here bring up the fact that the PS3 will have 1080p where the 360 will not. Is that a valid comparison in your opinion?
