I need to buy my first LCD HDTV and I've decided for a 32 inch one because of the size of the package. The thing is - I need to fly this thing to Brazil by January 10th, so the size of the box is pretty important.
The other problem I have is with taxes - when entering my country with any electronic equipment I must pay 50% tax of anything above 500usd.
So, to sum it up, I need a good LCD for gaming (X360) and DVD only - no HD broadcasting here - not very expensive (I have U$ 1.300 to burn on the TV + shipping to Florida), and with a good overall PQ. Preferebly (sp?) with VGA input to use it with the X360 vga cable.
I've seen some pretty cheap 32' LCDs, including the Olevia 32 HVE and the Kolin 3212M (most beautiful design I've seen yet - check it out amazon.com
Total price of these 2 sets above including shipping to FL and Brazil's customs tax would be around 1.300 usd (much less than getting a LCD in Brazil - roughly around U$ 5.000).
I've also checked the Samsung 8w and the Aquos DA5u, I guess both of them are considered good quality sets, but I became worried after browsing through the "Not impressed 32 Aquos" thread.
And these sets, considering my customs tax, will cost me around 1.800 each.
So, here are some questions:
1) Is the Kolin 32 really that bad for gaming and dvd watching only? Have anyone actually seen one to talk about it?
2) Olevia 32 seems to be a reasonable set with competitive price. Do you recommend it?
3) Should I spend the extra 500 usd to get a Samsung 8W or a Aquos Da5u? Wich one?
Any help will be really apreciated.
Thank you very much. :)
