as is the nature of man, i feel like upgrading my stuff. well just th reciever.
i currently own a yamaha rxv-995 for over 5 years. loved it, love the remote. was wondering how much better has digital decoding, dac's etc on recievers become. i've always liked yamaha amps, mellow warm natural sounding (to me). but how much more detailed, realistic, breath do the newer reciever technology breath into music and home theater enjoyment? what brings on this need to upgrade?
1. I've recently upgraded my front soundstage to paradigm ref 20's v3 and cc470. I love the clarity and detail coming out of these speakers. Was wondering though if my receiver was doing them justice and whether they can perform better with newer technology receiver.
2. would like to experiene the newer 6.1 format. is it that much better for movies than 5.1? i would like to take my original paradigm monitor line (mini monitor lft and rights and cc350) and place them to do rear surround work. I know this isnt ideal but i've got them all sitting not doing anything and would like to see what 6.1 is all about. so again, is 6.1 an slow evolutionary change in surround formats or a great new mutation/adaptation? having a rear center channel peeks my curiousity very much.
3. I've gotten into projection system and would like the convienance of component switching all in one box.
was considering onkyo. have read a lot about their recievers, seem very well liked. can anyone make a sweeping generalization about the sound of an onkyo amp? sound quality more on the higher freq than lower (detailed)? are they neutral? how would one describe their sound? what abot HK what are their recievers like? sound similar to onkyo?
was considering the ONKYO HT-R520 6.1 1000W DTS & PRO LOGIC RECEIVER. can someone tell me how it's technology stacks up agains the older Yamaha 995? does the onkyo's newer electronics impart a better and more realistic home theatre experience? will the detail encoded into todays media be brought forth better with a newer reciever?
thanks for any info
