Hello,
I do a lot of custom DVD creations via my PC. I got a Panasonic S97S DVD for Christmas, and I was wondering if anyone has been able to play DVD-Rs on this player? I read through the manual, and it states that Panasonic DVD-R discs can be played when recorded from a Panasonic DVD recorder or a Panasonic camcorder.
I tried creating a sample DVD, but the player wouldn't recognize it. Any help would be appreciated.
TIA

The main reason i wont buy a Panny or Sony player is there lack playing homeburned dvd's, unlike some players that play anything you can burn.
Ive read here it will play dvd-+R's but the 77s has a harder time.
When they offer DIVX support then i know i'm ready.

AkaStp,
What brands of DVD+/-R are you using, and what PC application are you burning them with?

My S97 was fine with Verbatim 4.7s ripped with a DVR108 & 109 using Toast or Dragon Burn on a Mac G4 or G5.
An RP91 I had years ago was the same. The Panys seem to be very good with DVD-R.

I'm using Memorex DVD-Rs using either Nero 6.6 or DVD Shrink on a Lite-On SOWH-812S. Nothing seems to be working, I tend to think it's the media.

I think part of the problem is when you compress using Shrink or other programs. I'm currently having problems with a Retail program I bought at best buy called ICopyDVDs2 which like shrink compresses to fit on one DVD+ or -R dvd. You can even select movie only. However, I have been haveing problems with Philips and memorex discs skipping a freezing during playback. Now these have been +R's and the software vendor said that may be the problem since the S97S manual says on -R's, and only some of them are supposed to work, according to the manual. I've tried Shrink also with the same results on the S97S. :(

Taiyo-Yuden DVD-R's burned on NEC ND-2500A dvd burner in a PC, using DVDshrink and/or Nero, have played perfect on the S97S - for me, anyway.
I have an older Panasonic XP50 and it plays DVD-R perfectly. The only media it had problems with was some garbage CompUSA brand DVD-Rs.
Media-wise, I switched to Taio Yuden, since they are considered the best brand for recordable media these days.

Seems like heavily compressing movies would be counterproductive to buying a quality player like the S97. Might as well use a $50 player.

I'll try some better media this weekend...
