I'm having a problem with my new Sony NS70H hooked up to my Westinghouse 27" LCD (LTV-27w2). I can only get the unit to send out a 480p signal. I've gone into the setup menu and set it for TV Type: 16x9, HDMI Resolution: 1280x720p, and YCbCr/RGB (HDMI): RGB (also tried YCbCr here). The Westinghouse still reports it is only receiving a 720x480p signal. The cable I am using is from Monoprice (an HDMI to DVI Cable since the Westinghouse has a DVI input and not HDMI).

In terms of troubleshooting, I've tried powering down both units, unplugging the a/c, then plugging in the cable and powering them both on. Still no luck.

I also have a Toshiba SD-4980 and it will upconvert using the same cable connection with no problem. The LCD TV will accept and display both 1280x720p and 1920x1080i from it correctly (and the OSD of the LCD reports that it is receiving those signals as well).

I'm either missing something obvious or it just won't work for some unknown reason.

I've tried doing a search and can only find reference to the "Shift" problem with the Sony. If there is a thread about my problem and have missed it, I apologize in advance. :(

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm having the exact same issue with the NS70H and the 32" Westinghouse. I'm using a Radio Shack gold HDMI/DVI cable and no matter how the player is set, it only seems to output 480p. I also have the dreaded shift issue! However, in my case, the image is shifted up and to the right. The shift leaves about 1/4" on the left side and bottom of the screen. In addition, the last few rows of pixels on the left side and bottom are discolored, soft/blurry and noisy. I really don't know how else to describe it.

atrac, I read in another posting that you returned your player. I'm just about ready to do the same! I think I'll go out and get the Samsung 850 and compare the two this weekend.

Help! I'd like to keep the Sony, but...

Yes, I did get rid of it. The lack of responses on here indicated to me that it seems to be an isolated problem with Westinghouse LCD's. With many people having the shift issue and not getting it resolved by Sony, I figured a problem like this would have a resolution (so to speak) that would never see the light of day.

I own a Westinghouse LVM-37w1 LCD Monitor, and I purchased the Sony DVPNS70H DVD Player with the 720p/1080i upconversion through HDMI. I bought an HDMI-DVI cable and promptly returned the player the next day as I discovered the same problem. I now own a Samsung HD841 DVD Player which does the upconversion through its DVI output. I don't know why, but this seems to be a Sony/Westinghouse compatibility issue. I hope the Playstation 3, which supposedley has 2 HDMI outputs and 1080p resolution, doesn't have this "shift" problem.

I also have a lvm37w1 and the sony dvpns70h would not upconvert to 720 or 1080. What a let down. Been looking into how to solve the problem. What was funny was when i went to the online chat support on sony's web site. They had me put it to auto for display resolution and informed me that i was getting the highest possible upconversion available. Ok so now i know Sony will not work with westinghouse so it has just saved me at least a 1000.00 on a blu ray player. Thanks Sony. That was the first sony product i have purchased in like 8 years as i have not ever had any luck with sony. I guess my luck still hasnt changed.
