My unit is a few years old and I upgraded it to a maxtor 250GB when I first got it. More and more when watching a show the screen goes black and no audio for 5 sec to 10 mins. The unit isn't frozen I can see the time (clock) still moving. If I foward it will come back but I miss part of my shows. Its doing it more and more. If I go back and replay its in the same place so its part of the drive recording.
Is it a bad drive or something with the unit (short maybe?)?
Thanks

Doesn't sound like a hard drive problem. If you are recording the signal through a cable or sat box, is it possible the box is turning off? Some boxes output black when turned off.

I found a post from MikeyBoy about the GROUND SCREWS. That was my problem, here is the link. Should be put into FAQ.

FWIW, the loose mounting/grounding screw on the power supply board problem is referenced here: ReplayTV seems unstable, works for while, then reboots or other strange and/or erratic behavior (http://www.replaytvupgrade.com/#unstable)

I recently had a problem where I was getting audio-only theme recordings for a single show (Scrubs). The full 30 minutes of sound was there, but no picture at all.
I finally figured out that the local NBC affiliate's HD feed had been added to the digital cable tier: since I removed all of the non-digital channels from the cable box input to force the RTV to record them with the internal tuner instead of chancing a cable-box mishap, the new channel 197 was lower than the RTV-tuned channel 504 (cable 4 +500), and the RTV chose the lowest channel number available to record from. The SD cable box couldn't decode the HD video, but had no problem with the audio.
Simple enough to fix, once I figured out what was happening, but I was really scared at first that the tuner was going AWOL.
