no, have not been announced yet.
Correct. But expect the price to be higher than DVDs. Same is true of BD format btw.
Studios like HD because they think they can charge more for the DVDs and achieve better profitability. So don't expect these titles in bargain bins anytime soon.

And they think they can get us to rebuy our old titles in HD. While true for some of the minority (well pretty much every geek with an HDTV or a computer with a drive- which is close to 100%- will rebuy Lord of the Rings and Star Wars), I don't think most will be so keen to jump back on the bandwagon. I know I won't be.
What irks me about the rereleased stuff and the argument for DRM is that it's all about IP (copyright). While I agree that people should be able to profit off the works of their mind, the ultimate reason (as per the constitution) was to benenfit all, not the few. I get annoyed that I've already bought the rights to watch the IP/content once (in fact for many titles, more than once) but then I have to buy it again and again when it gets delivered in a new media. I think if you can mail in your old DVD you should get a new HD-DVD for a nominal price. There is a campaign for you to fight for amir! :p
Hoping it won't be too bad...I could hang with a $5 premium over DVD for BD/HD DVD.
Hoping it won't be too bad...I could hang with a $5 premium over DVD for BD/HD DVD.
I won't be interested until there are a reasonable number of titles available for RENT.
Well, I don't know if this is correct or if it's going to hold, but DVD Empire has titles listed for $59.99.
That's a lotta cash.

I see that skogan also tried linking to the site. I can't seem to link directly to the page, but if you scroll down under category information and click on HD-DVD, it will bring you to the listing.
EDIT: Oops. Sorry. I see it's already being discussed elsewhere.

I'm going to take a wild guess that they put a placeholder into the system.
Both HD DVD and BD can shut down right now if they think they can charge $60 a disc. :D
Also of concern is the fact that all of the discs at DVDEmpire are labeled as "fullscreen", even ones like Apollo 13 which were shot in 2.35:1. I love Apollo 13, but I'm not paying $60 for a pan-and-scan version of it, even if it is in HD. Who the heck would want this?
Let's hope this is just a placeholder and not what we can really expect to see.

Nothing on that site looks correct. Who knows what their deal is, but I seriously doubt the legitimacy. They don't have SKUs either. I wouldn't put much weight on anything you see there.
I'm sure it's just place-holder info. It's too early and people making a fuss over the price in another thread are worried over nothing.
I see no price information on the page kpup links to. They must have updated it since then.

Believe me: EVERYONE is hoping for exactly what you're stating here.
Those prices have got to be a mistake. I'm sure that they know no one in their right minds will pay $60 for a single dvd. If the prices are correct, how are they going to justify the high cost?
