Ok....my Phillips Q50 is dying... I'm actually amazed it lasted this long with all the issues that model had.

Looking for a new DVD player.... I do not have an HD set but looking to purchase one before the year is out (looking at 37 in.LCD) I see there are new features with the DVD players such as scaling and wondering if someone can give some recommendations for a good DVD player (No changers).

I never got to experience the Q50's full capability because of the set but heard good things about the foujura chip and would preferably look for models with the chip unless they're not as good anymore.

Also wondering if I should hold off until the new HD-DVDs come out. Can someone please give some feedback?

Thanks

I would recommend the Oppo...and not just because I own one! Honestly, it's a great player for the money, and can play just about any media you can throw at it. If you can wait a few months, a new model (Oppo) is thought to be released; possibly (speculatively?) in the spring.

The Oppo is a great DVI player, but a poor choice for component connections, so it might not be a good choice for you with your current TV. The Panny S77 and S97 are also excellent players.

Would you believe that no one has ever posted this before?!?!? Well, they do, about 2-10 times per week.
