Refurb 702's are starting to pop up at really good prices from authorized online Onkyo resellers with 1 year warranty from Onkyo. I have read most all of the posts about the two that I can, but my brain is just fried about it. My main needs are component switching, composite/s-video to component upconverting, and 2 zone output. My current system is 5.1, so the second zone output source is good for the yard speakers. Forgetting the refurb issue, are the new features in onkyo tx sr703 that much better than a 702 to warrant paying more for it or would you still buy the 702? I plan to buy one or the other this week and stop the maddness.

I ordered the 703 in silver from J&R this past weekend. It is scheduled to arrive this Thursday.

I have been looking for a new receiver for over a year. I finally decided on the Onkyo 703 because it had the features that I was looking for at a reasonable price. I have convinced myself that I don't want my audio gear to do video switching or processing. So, I don't care that it doesn't have HDMI switching and I don't care how the video upconversion works. I also plan to use it as a pre/ pro for a set of seperate amps so I'm not so concerned about whether it can drive 4 ohms or not. It seems to be digital processing feature rich and it had at least 4 optical (audio) inputs.

Just a few of my thoughts.

702 gets my vote. you should be able to get it cheep. i have one and it works great. i use video switching for the dvd player and nothing else, so there is less chance of a melt down.

Well...settled on a 702 refurb. Has everything I need, and the price was right < $350 w/ 1 year warranty from Onkyo. Be here tommorow and set up way before the Super Bowl in HD!
