Sony KV-34HS510 Native format?

Newbe here,
I have the above TV. I also have a samsung directv receiver. What is the best way to set these up. Meaning should I set the Samsung receiver to the Native setting and have it output the format it receives, or should I just feed a specific output eg. 1080i out of the receiver to the TV. Also I am a little confused about the output formats. Both units have various formats (stretch, zoom, wide zoom, eg.) What is the best format for both units to be set on? Any help would be appreciated.

set the reciever to send all sources in their native format, let the tv do all the converting.

Should I tell the receiver, if I can, to output in 4:3 mode and let the TV do the format switching for all the 4:3 programs?
