View Full Version : 480p vs. 720p on EDTV?

I just got a Panny 42pd50u, and when I set up my cable box (Scientific Atlanta 8000HD) I put it to 720p. I was just curious if anyone else has tested setting your box to 480p and then to 720p? My thinking was to input a full HD signal and then let the TV scale it down. Setting it to 480p would make the Cable box downscale, and then have the TV slightly re-upscale (100+ lines of vertical resolution). I just think that you would get slightly more detail with inputting a 720p image over a 480p one, but maybe someone knows something I don't. Thanks.

Greetings

I'd rather see 410000 real pixels from a 720p signal than 350000 real pixels from 480p and 60000 made up pixels.

You can't create new detail out of nothing.
