Am I crazy to still be price shopping?

A local Circuit City has one remaining "in the box" 34xs955 for a clearance price of $1299.00 I'm looking for a tv for the bedroom. I figure this will be the last CRT I will ever buy. Am I going to be kicking myself if I go back in a few days and this TV is gone? I'm still conflicted as to whether I need an HDTV in the bedroom or should just settle on a 32" SDTV. Is this TV worth the extra money?

As for $1,299 for the set. It is a very reasonable price, and it's a great set that is QUICKLY disappearing. I know for a fact you are not going to get better picture quality at that price. If it's in your range, buy it. In 3 months, the money won't matter... but in 5 years, you'll still have a nice set.

Because he's a constant source of FUD, misinformation, and spin and never backs up anything he says and yet tries to pass those things off as facts. I think you should get the set as well. Doesn't seem to be any downside at all. I've been looking for that set or the 960(N) locally at exactly that price point, sadly it looks like inventory is mostly depleted in the Detroit metro area. (Unless anyone has information to the contrary!)

I also agree that it will be nice for this to change from the "hey let's bash walt chan" forum back to the Direct View TV forum! It's really obvious when you're catching up on a few days of posts and see the same thing brought up over and over, thread after thread.

AhGGH! I can't believe it! I just got back from cc and someone bought the last one before I got there. Its all my wife's fault. Valentines day took my attentions yesterday so I didn't get back to this board until this morning. The sales guy looked around and there are no 34xs955s in stock anywhere in South Florida.

On the flip side they just marked down the 34xbr960 from 1899 to 1599. I don't need any of the additional features of the 960 so I doubt I will go for it at that price. They also marked down a 4:3 36xs955 to 1299. But that TV is huge and I know I'm going to want the widescreen format. I'm bummed. :(

Don't be.

If you bought the 36xs955, you would be giving up maybe one inch on your 16X9 material and you'd have this mammoth 4:3 picture. If letterbox bars don't bother you, it's a hell of an amazing TV.

Otherwise...I'd really nudge you towards that XBR960. It's the best of its kind. :)


If you look in a few other current threads, you'll see some people posting about some sales at various electronics stores, including Best Buy. All may not be lost yet here for you.

You may not need the added features of the 960, but at that price I strongly urge you to consider buying it. If I were in your shoes I'd snap that up in an instant.
