Hi all

I have a 13 year old CRT TV that's 27 inches. It's a Panasonic and to this day, it's still working like a charm except for one major flaw:

The screen shakes up and down, even blacks out for a couple seconds and then the picture comes back. This happens everytime I turn it on and happens randomly for a good 2-3 minutes before it "juices up" and reverts to normal operation.

Now, I've had this TV ever since 93', and I can understand that these problems should come now due to old age.

Anywho, what could be the problem and how would I go about getting it fixed? It started doing these 'seizures' since 2004 IIRC, so a good 1.5 years.

Interesting post, you will probably not get many replies. I think I asked a similar question here back a while ago. I have a 27" 8 year old Panny and it does the jumpy screen thing. Like you stated, it seemed to need to "warm" up. I also noticed something recently, I use the buttons often on the tv itself and the flickers the screen makes occur when I press or after I press those buttons. I also then to switch out the rca plugs in the back often. I think those two things I do are related to the screen problems. I have since not touch the tv buttons at all and used a video converter for all the electronics that I plug into the tv. This so far has limited the jumping problem to a minimum. Still happens but much less.

When it was jumping in the past, we just slap that tv on the side like the Fonze. :)

It's not worth fixing, slap it and live with it, or get a replacement.

Now about the blacking out, my friend's ~20" Panny does the that but much infrequent, he says he notices if he picks it up an inch or so and drops it, it works again.

My problem started about 5-6 years after purchase, his pretty much 1-2 years, but his problem has only occurred 2-4 times only. Mine is daily. :(

Hmm...interesting.

Seems like it happens frequently in Panasonic CRT's. I do slap it every now and then to fix the problem.

The PQ on the TV is great even though this happens. I'm not going to replace it; guess I'm going to have to live with it.
