The Toshiba in the bedroom died after just 2 yrs. Any recommendations? Just use it for non-hd sat. I don't feel it is worth going lcd.

TIA

I just went down to Sears a few months ago and bought the Sony KV-20FS120 20" FD TrinitronŽ WegaŽ TV for the kitchen.

You can get it for probably $200-$230 thereabouts. You know what you're getting with a Sony Trinitron WEGA: The best. These TV's are still very easy to come by and they're well worth it.

It really has a darned good picture that even my mom noticed immediately and appreciates to this day. (It was a birthday present for her. ;) )

That's probably the most you'd have to spend. Other than that, the usual suspects: JVC, Panasonic...any of the leading brands will give you a solid 20 inch TV. :)

Thanks. Does it do s-video?

The 20FS120's actually has component video instead, believe it or not.

No S-Video.

Interestingly enough, it's 24 inch brother, 24FS120, has S-video added, in addition to the composite and component video. MSRP is $299. You can probably get it for less if you haggle at Sears or any place like that.

Not sure why they'd cut out S-video but leave in component on a 20 inch TV.

If you really need a 20 inch with S-Video, this is where you may have to look at JVC, Panasonic, or one of the leading brands.

^^ Here's Panasonic's current (only?) 20 inch TV. It has both Svideo and component. As you can see, you can order direct from them if you have to.

^^ Ditto on the JVC.

Thanks

The (dead) Toshiba had both too.

I am partial to Panasonic. I bought a refurbed 34" Tau monitor a couple of years ago and it just won't die.

Then that 20 inch Panasonic should be a perfect match. :)

Agreed. I see this as the very best choice.

The Sony would have been the overall best, imo...(ours is fantastic. Even my mom, who is hardly a videophile, constantly comments on how good it looks)...but why they skimped on S-video entirely is beyond me. I noticed several other brands did that.

I'm all for component video on anything, but at the expense of S-Video? *shrugs*
