View Full Version : Just ordered a sony 30xs955
Found it online at a good price. I ordered it from J&R computer and Music world. The site has good reviews but I havent done any business with them. Has anyone here dealt with them and if so were you please with the transaction? Total cost including shipping was just under $900 so I figured that would be about as good as I could get. Plus these tv's seems to be disapperaing fast so i jumped on the oppurtunity....now im kinda second guessing myself. Ill be using it mostly for dvd's and gaming....for those of you with expierence with this tv do you think I have made a good choice?

You've bought arguably the best 30 inch widescreen HD tube on the market, so congratulations. :)
J&R is a good place to do business with. I've bought a few lower end things from them in the past and never had any problems. I haven't yet run into anyone that's had anything bad or outrageous happen to them short of bad luck or any of the usual things that can happen you buy something.

Hey bro. You made a good choice. I have had this tv for about a month and its awesome. I originally had ordered from J&R,but i canceled it cause i found it locally at about the same price and did not want to wait for delivery. I cancelled the order the next day and they where great about it. I really think you will be happy with J&R :) . Enjoy your new Sony! :)

I purchased my set from J&R about 4 weeks ago and I was completely happy with my transaction.
I am also very happy with the TV. My Xbox & PS2 games, DVD's, and Comcast HD cable all look fantastic on this set.
I have absolutely no buyer's remorse, in regards to this specific model, or from buying it from J&R. Rest assured, you have made a good choice and you will be very happy once you receive the TV.

I don't know about a 30xbr, but from what i understand this is the last sony 30 inch tv with the super fine pitch tube feature. This really makes a big difference in your viewing experience. Go ahead and take the plunge, you wont regret it!

I would give them 20 bucks and i bet they would carry it to your apartment. I would also open the box and exam the tv making sure everything was ok.
Im not really sure how the shipping works but im guessing its a curbside delivery so you may want to have some friends ready to help your move the thing to your apartment

You won't find a better 30" HDTV display;)
Walter i'm willing to forgive you fornow and be your friend, but the reason i started to dislike you was because of the lieing and Mistrust in your posts. In order to be a friend you have to trust the person, you see it's all based on trust.
And i'm willing to forgive you and be your friend again and help you out in your HDTV purchase venture. But no more rediculous stuff ok,... friends?
Now on to your question that sony is an excellent tv a little sharper than the 30hs420 too if you plan to sit close for gaming etc.At that price it's a very good deal, J&R is a respectable dealer, and yes by all means tip the shipping guys $20 because these things are heavy even though you have a 30" tv it's still heavy, you could only imagine how heavy mine and Q's and Justsc's 34" HDTV's are so tipping the delivery guys would help a lot, it was a nightmare moving my tv to my room with me,my father and my uncle.
You can't go wrong with this sony 30" HDTV, by the way how is your 26" Sony LCD doing are you selling that too?

You are correct. Moving it up flights of stairs or anything beyond your front door will cost you, although I think MIASony is correct in that if you give them $20, they'll do it.
The guy that delivered my TV actually helped me put it in the living room without any extra cost. As someone else said, you'll want a buddy or 2 there to help you move it up stairs (if applicable) once it is delivered.

It took about 6 business days I think. They ship from NY and I'm all the way in Southern California, so it will be different depending on where you're at.
OMG!
I can't believe this! Start the circus music!

Still waiting for a TV, waltchan? Why not we both wait for the 30HF66....this way when it comes out we immediately get 2 quality opinions on its performance?
I can't lift 150 pounds either, but with difficulty I can probably lift half of that although I wouldn't want to. You can lift 111 pounds by yourself, waltchan? (I can actually lift the 30HF85 by myself but that is super dangerous and I try to never do it...I always use two people).
I can't believe it!!! He's deleted all of his posts AGAIN!
Just so you all know, he cancelled his order because the TV is 30 lbs. heavier than the Toshiba he previously had and his stand only can hold ~120 lbs.
You talk about BS and craving for acceptance and attention?

But he is still keenly interested in the heavier 34XPR970 because of it's magical self- Levitating feature, I assume.
Well your order is still active...

I'm not kidding. One thing I noticed is that some of the flaws of the 30HF85's were shared by units coming from the same production batch (April 30HF85s are not the same as September 30HF85s). It's possible Orion will eventually get their act in order and their TVs reasonable (not perfect, but reasonable). I'm planning to wait for the 30HF66 and get *just one* and if it is unacceptable that will be end of my dealings with Toshiba and I will get something else.
Didn't someone else post on this forum that the 30HF83 was once rated #2 by Consumer Reports magazine? (but that the 30HF84/85 was rated last, which it totally deserves). If that's true, it only supports my feeling that hidden underneath these Orion bastardizations is the potential for an excellent piece of equipment. To the people who keep saying "Sony is the best just get Sony!" there are multiple reasons why some buyers may not want Sony. They aren't the best reasons but they are still valid reasons. Weight, and more importantly size (Length) is a valid reason. Some people hate Aperture Grilles because they cannot stand seeing the 3 horizontal suspension wires (note, I'm not one of them), etc. Sony's quality control these days is not even close to decent, either (although it is still better than most other brands).
waltchan, as a very friendly piece of advice, I recommend you not delete your posts anymore. It is bad forum etiquette. I know that sometimes you may feel you wrote something stupid or be angry, but you should still leave your posts there. I feel as if I write stupid things all the time and wish I could take them back. But once someone else has read your post it is dishonest to try to erase it and prevent them from responding to it (or even making fun of it). Maybe people here would actually be less critical towards you if you never deleted your posts.

Ain't that the truth!
You have serious issues...
You do nothing but insight the rebuttles from everyone and then cry 'foul' to the mods because everyone's 'picking on you'. You always state that "you" never break the rules. And... you don't. But IMO, you are no different than any other troll. Just a bit more insidious (and perhaps schizophrenic, since you answer your own posts with an alias?).
I'd love to put you on my ignore list. But, who knows what your NEXT alias will be?

hello!
im wondering if anyone with this set can comment on how the xbox360 looks on this TV? so the TV can only do 1080i right? so then what if a game only supports 720p, will it still look good on this display?
SurfingMatt27

I don't own an xbox360 yet but from what i've been hearing from the people that do own an xbox360 with a sony 30xs955 it's all very positive and it looks great!!!!
Then again any videogame system played on a CRT will look great;)
Oh and Walter you just lost my trust, friendship denied!!!
I gave you a chance, but you had to go to your schemes again and delete your posts
you have issues and we cannot help you but to now just ignore every post you make from now on.
I suggest everyone else does the same thing just ignore him, but like Ratman said what is the point if he uses another Alias?

Walt, this is my first and last time addressing you directly. Just some friendly advise, never post anything as specific as an order number on the open web. You should cover those tracks. Somebody could call on an order check and perhaps get some unsuspecting rep to disclose a lot of personal information. In other words, you might be facilitating identity theft. Well, at least one of your many. Just a joke, but seriously you should not expose so much of your personal data. One kind parting word of advise to you: Slow down with the posting competition thing. I think if you realize that we are all in this together, and it is not a competition, you will be comfortable with a less frenzied amount of entries. Less is often more, and usually more enlightening. Be well. :)

This is truly a sign of a serious illness. Buying and canceling orders, posting and deleting posts, the craving of attention, the need to post new threads on every new TV...
for pete's sake, someone in So Cal take him out to an adult recreational facility and get his attention on an experience it appears he desperately needs....

As usuall, he posts then deletes his evidence. why he deletes them is beyond me?
No more after that. The posts were an error by me for ordering that TV. You said to me not to post false information. If I left them here, people would believe that I buy it. I don't see a problem deleting only three posts here in this thread regarding this matter. I'm sure this has happened before from somebody.
