Sony 34XBR960 with the Ascend 340SE center

hey all, I've ordered an Ascend 340 center channel speaker and i'm trying to figure out if it's possible to have it sit on top of the Sony 34xbr960. I was hoping to cut out a piece of foam so that the speaker can sit evenly atop the tv. However, the CBM-340 is 26 lbs according to the Ascend website, which seems awfully heavy. The 34xbr960's top surface is mostly grills which makes me a little worried about it's ability to withstand that much weight.

Will the large surface area of the Ascend (7.5" x 21" x 10.5") allow it to distribute the weight better? I've seen some center speaker shelves, but they're rated for only 20 lbs. The tv is sitting on a Z-Line Designs 36" TV Stand which is rated for 240 lbs. The other options are to buy a wall mounting bracket or to place it on the shelf below the tv. Both alternatives have their own can of problems, so i want to try placing the speaker atop the tv first.

I figure someone on here must own an Ascend 340 with their 34xbr960 since they're both so highly regarded AV components. Thanks alot for any advise. This is my first post and it is because of this forum that led me to purchase both the 34xbr960 and the ascend speakers.

I use the Ascend 340 center on top of the 34xbr960 and it doesn't need any additional support. However, if I had kids that could knock it over, I would probably recommend a special center speaker stand that is made for sitting on top of the TV.

thanks for the replies you guy. I'm not that worried anymore about sitting that monster on my tv. Well, a little less worried anyways. I've been away else i woulda thank ya earlier. :)

I have an HTD level 4 center on my XBR960, and it's pretty large. No problems. You just have to find the "sweet spot" and you'll have no problems.
