I am looking to buy this TV and I want to know if it is a good, a friend of mine told me to come here. I plan on connecting the TV to my HTPC (via a DVI to HDMI cable) and my Xbox 360 (via component). I am looking to get 1080i on both.

Thanks in advance!

Is this the philips with the rounded edges around the frame?

If so then yeah it's a pretty nice looking HDTV set.

I'd do some searching on this forum on that model so you know all of the possible problems, Also do some searchs on the panasonic and sony models. I think you'll find the Sonys and Panasonics have the least amount of problems and the KV-30HS420 sony is on sale right now if the price is an issue. I think that phillips model is the one that there always selling TONS of refurbs of at the phillips outlet, This tells me the tv has a high fail rate and i would avoid it. One of the phillips sets has a power supply issue but im not sure if thats the model cause i haven't done any reasearch on phillips sets so do some searchs.

while it should work with what you want to do, I do not think its a quality TV

I would avoid it, the HTPC and xbox 360 together are worth what triple the value of this TV
I would save more or finance rather than buy a poor quality TV that you may end up ending to drag back to the store if you are unhappy with it

Whatever you pick, deep search here before you buy and you will find a wealth of info regarding issues, whether minor or major.

How much is the sony? The main reason I'm looking at the philips is becasue it is so affordable. I'm willing to deal with small problems as long as I' getting a good deal

Most of the things I saw when I searched seem to be related to overscan and "geometry" (have no idea what this means in terms of a TV, does it mean a basketball will look like a football or somehting?), both of which I dont think will be a deal breaker. Only thing I read that seems like it could possibly be a deal breaker is that some people say they see spots on the corners of the screen, but nobody really elaborates on them, which makes me think they arent that big of an issue.

The Sony is in the upper $600 i beleave, But its a quality tv. I think the spots are more of a big deal then you think they are, Ive read that on a couple reviews. Overscan and geometry should be adjustable in the service menu. I'd save a little bit more and get a quality tv after all its going to last probably more then 10 years so wouldn't you want to get a good one instead of spending all the money all over again?

I think I'm gonna pass on the philips, read a few revies on other sites about the philips outlet shipping out doa sets (and someone on here got one too).

Guess I'm just gonna have to stay in the SD world a little longer :(

Can anyone recommend me any TV's in the $450 range?
