Hello all,Newbie here. I finally purchased a 34xbr960 (non N). So far everything is great but I have a Dvd viewing question. 85% of my viewing is Dvd and almost all my Dvds are Enhanced for 16:9 Tv. I have a Sony DVP-NS50P hooked up to Video 5 via quality component cables. I've made the usual video adjustments to the Tv and I sit 6 feet from it. I've noticed after much trail and error Dvds look much smoother with the Dvd player set to 480i and the Tv set to Cinemotion. I thought the best picture would be obtained by having the Dvd set to Progressive which would disable the DRC on the Tv. Am I missing a setting here or didn't I need to get a progressive scan Dvd player? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thanks JohnG. I read that thread from front to back over the last week and probably missed some info. I always thought for maximum picture quality a progressive scan dvd player was a necessity with a widescreen Tv. I was kinda surprised when the picture looked better when I turned the progressive off. Thank you for the reply.

Oh,I see. My eyes must have been getting funky by that point. Guess I could have kept my non-progressive Dvd player? Thanks for your help JohnG.

It depends if your dvd player or tv has the better deinterlacer. Typically a DVD should look better when the player does the work since it keeps the signal in the digital domain but a lot of players now don't really have good DAC's which is why the poor playback quality.
I guess i'm lucky since i have a solid 480p discontinued SONY 775 that blows away the deinterlacing in the tv set and even was identical to the ow so worshipped OPPO player in PQ.

Thank you SurfingMatt. I got the Dvd player jus for this Tv. Most reviews were good, guess I should have researched some more. It does look stunning when set to 480i. Just kinda surprises me a bit. Getting the cablecard installed this Friday.
