since my price range was under $1100 and i wanted at least a 32" screen i figured CRT was the way to go.

I was looking at the 34HF85 but the reveiws here make me worry. Who makes a good CRT HDTV that is in my price range.

Thanks!!

Sony KV-34HS420. I got mine for just under $1,100. If you want to go smaller look for the KD-30XS955. If you can't get the Sony you want go for the Panasonic CT-34WX15

It's also important to note if you require a built-in tuner or not.

My town is HORRIBLE for reception. I went to the site that tells you what stations i can get OTA, and none of them were HDTV. So i do no need a HDTV tuner built in. I will be using a CableVision HD box or Verizon FIOS TV when it is released in my town. Thanks for the suggestions all.

Both of those sony's seem a bit hard to find. Are they out of production or are they current models. Also i just heard on the HDTV podcast that Sony is closing there CRT production facilities.

I just ordered the 30XS955 from JR for $700 + shipping. I imagine you can find the 34HS at JR or BHPhoto no problem.

Any way to get cheaper shipping. I guess i could go to NYC and pick it up local.

The list price for the 30" XS is $1,200. If you order it off Amazon it comes to about $900 total. It's a steal at that price.

Sony KD-36XS955 36" looked perfect.....except it was 4:3 and not 16:9 and the price on amazon was awesome.

Well, if you really want that extra size in that price range your best bet is the 34HS420. You can order if off BestBuy.com or B&H.

Big risk with the Sony refurbished one, warranty is 90 days only and you bring the unit in. How about a 32xs945? Contains a hd tuner too.

The 32XS is 4:3. I think he wants 16:9

the 32" XS does not have the super fine pitch tube

No, the 32xs doesn't have the SFP tube but it still looks like a fairly good set. Pretty hard to find a SFP tube at 32" and over for under one grand. I'd jump on a deal if you can point one out. :)

Hey guys,
I just picked up the 34XS955 today form the Sony outlet. A misconception going around is with the warranty. IT DOES come with the original 90 days P+L and 1 year P. This is in-home service as well. I spoke with the salesman at the store as well as calling Sony corporate to confirm. Also Sony offers a complete extended warranty; $50 for 3 years and $90 for 5 years. Again, this is full in home service ( i drove 2 hours to get mine and this was a huge factor!!)

I got mine from the DE store (the last one, sorry!) and found they also have 11 30XS955's in their boxes for $749 (tax free!) Hope this helps!!

I went a week ago to the aurora outlet store and got mine for 850 out to the door including 5 yr in home warranty. they said they had 7 left then?

I noticed the misconception on the warranty, the info I posted earlier was from the web outlet terms and conditions. I guess it's different from the web and the actual store outlet, because the sales at the store confirmed "same warranty terms as new products". I picked up one from Aurora as well last week, it was 3 left after I picked up mine, I also got the 5 year plan. Getting into tweaking it now.

I just bought a 34XS955 from Sony outlets and added a 5 yr warranty for $90 so it was still under $800 and I have piece of mind.
$800 for everything?
OK I didn't count Tax = $65 sorry LOL
Yep they're refurbished, BUT as far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with that. besides I bought the 5 years "in your home" warranty. I basically bought the TV for half of retail price. I know some people will not touch a refurbished item. I have never had a problem with any refurbished stuff I have bought. Besides typically refurbished stuff has a lower chance of breaking then something new due to the testing they go through.

I called that Aurora Ill store and inquired about what product they had. They told me they had, but are now sold out, of the 34XBR960 at a blow-out price of $699! You read that right. They were factory refurbished, but what that meant, according to the Sony sales guy, was that anything that is discontinued, has a packaging dent, or a cosmetic blemish is called factory refurbished--they are not repaired or open box returns etc. If they have work done to them, they are called factory remanufactured. According to them, the factory refurbished ones are still new in the box. Unfortunately, I missed out on that price or I would have made the 5 hour drive and picked one up myself. No Sony outlet stores near me. Nuts.
