View Full Version : Where is the XBR 960n?!

Is it me or is the XBR960n difficult to find. I only see two online dealers that carry it and one is Sony themselves and the other is Crutchfield.

I was banking on buying it from B&H but the 960n seems to have dissapeard from their website as of this morning. I called and asked and they said their distributer wouldn't ship them 960n's because they aren't an "authorized Sony television dealer" and their price ($1499) was too low.

I ended up placing my order directly through Sony Style for, sigh, $1899 (thought they DO offer free delivery). It's not being shipped to the deliverer from Sony till the end of the week and won't be delivered until late next week (at best)...so I figured I'd ask to see if there were any other options in regards to purchasing this TV under the $1899 MSRP. TIA

Call ABT Electronics and ask for the best price on it shipped. You should be able to do better than msrp.

check your local best buys, they have a sale right now i think it's 1700 out the door after instant rebate. - they dont have all that many left though. I'm about to buy in 2 weeks.
Is it me or is the XBR960n difficult to find. I only see two online dealers that carry it and one is Sony themselves and the other is Crutchfield.
It is you. In response to perhaps five similar requests for "best prices", etc., I have repeatedly suggested that you look into online retailer DigtalCraze (http://www.digitalcraze.com/) where they sell ALL Sony products, including XBR960, XBR960N, stands, bases, receivers, etc.

They are an authorized Sony retailer, so warranty is not an issue. They have high marks on resellerratings.

Their prices are for the item only, with shipping, sales tax (not if you're outside NY) and optional extended warranty (beyond the Sony's warranty) shown separately.

XBR960N is $1350, XBR960 is $1200. Insured shipping is $300.

I bought my XBR960 from them last year (price was $1750 back then), with Bekins white-glove delivery into my bedroom. Perfect transaction, the set arrived at my home a total of 6 days after I placed the order.

Thanks mapson! I ordered mine from ABT Electronics. $50 more than Digital Craze but offered FREE shipping. Thank you so kindly! I'm happy to not have spent MSRP on it direct from Sony! I canceled that order with Sony in a jiffy!!!

Is ABT selling these for $1400? That's the best price I've seen so far.

Yes $1399 and that included FREE SHIPPING. I never heard of ABT before but I trust that they are reputable and indeed certified for Sony sales.

ABT is very reliable, I'm local to them and if you're ever in the area (IL), I highly recommend everyone stop by to see their store. Only problem since I'm local is the tax I have to pay. :( Very good sales help as well. Glad you got a great deal, GmElliott.

These aren't the prices I see when goint to ABT's web site...

David, those are generally msrp or non-sale prices, call them up and ask for the best price they can give you.

Question: is Abt's free delivery white-glove or curbside service only?

mapson

Jimmy, I don't really know, maybe someone can chime in and answer. Like I said, I'm local to them so when they deliver anything big for me, it's in their signature ABT white trucks and they bring it inside. I don't know how exactly it's done when it's out of state, etc.

Hello Guys!

I just registered - so hello!

I have been reading this forum for the past few days. I have decided on the kd-34xbr960n way before i knew about this place.

I have also been looking for a place to buy - and GMelliot posted about ABT. Well I gave them a call and asked them if they can sell it to me for 1400. He had to check with his manager sales rep. And he agreed!

1400 Shipped no tax! That is amazing!

I was going to get a job at best buy just to buy this thing but it looks like I don't have to!

It ships out tommorrow!

Thankyou for telling me about ABT - The Sales Rep was great and well knowledged!

Ill post a reply of when I get it and my first thoughts (I have never seen this thing in action! But I can trust you guys!)
online retailer DigtalCraze (http://www.digitalcraze.com/) where they sell ALL Sony products, including XBR960, XBR960N, stands, bases, receivers, etc.
Correction: looks like the XBR960 is no longer shown on the DigitalCraze web site as it was just a few days ago. Must now be all gone.

So only the XBR960N can be had here.

Frys in Atlanta had a 960 and 960N side by side in Atlanta today. I adjusted them to the same settings, getting them off the horrible Vivid mode - to compare what I could with the same sources side by side (Bottom line - no difference in picture that could be seen when adjusted the same - although their feed of HDNET is not without issues).

I did not crawl around back to check it, but i believe they had the 2 tags reversed as well, lol.

I just got off the phone with ABT. Talked with 2 different sales reps. I begged, pleaded, even said "pretty please", and the best deliverd price I could finagle was $1,450 delivered. The other rep. was stuck at $1,475. Can someone give me the name of the rep. that will sell me a 960N for $1,400 delivered? Thanx.

For $50 you may miss out entirely...take the $1450 price delivered and you'll be more than happy...believe it. Also, check PM and email.

I ordered mine from ABT for $1400 Shipped No Tax (No Departments in FL).

My Sales Rep was Kevin Robles - Ask for him! Very Nice Guy! He might say, "I can only go to $1799." But tell him you know many people who got theirs for $1400 Shipped. He will abide!

I asked Kevin why they could go so low - and they said they had over 50 kd-34xbr90Ns in stock! This was last Thursday!

OVER 50!!

And that they have not been selling a lot lately. So....

Just call ABT - 1-888-228-5800

Get to their sales department and ask for Kevin Robles!

Their shipping company they use is kind of weird. Their site hasn't been updated in a long time. But I called them and they were shipping mine out tonight.

Everyone has been very professional about it.

If anything goes wrong i'll definitely post it here!

Oh, This is ABt's shipping company

Now is definitely the time to get one, because it doesn't seem like any more are being made. I wrote on another thread about a local dealer offering me a xbr960n for $1,100 after tax and delivery. He got a note from his sony rep the next morning saying they don't stock them anymore (still plenty of 34XS955's, however). The dealer was kind enough to hunt me one from another dealer. It arrives this week.

Another note: while I was hunting a stand at an HHGregg store (kind of like a Best Buy, for those who don't know) the saleman said the xbr970 will be retailing for $1,099.

Thanks for the info. about the sales rep at ABT. That's exactly what I needed to know. I plan to call and order myself a new XBR960N tomorrow, hopefully for the $1,400 (delivered) figure. Wish me luck!

That is just so wierd considering Fry's has new 960 and 960Ns in Atlanta.

but the 970s are not as good as the 960n correct? No SFP?

kny3twalker

yeah the 970 is missing the SFP tube, cable card, firewire ports, twinview, customizable DRC, memory card reader, and subwoofer

I have started shopping for a HDTV after my old Sony XBR100 died.

I have some questions about some things that are confusing me.

1. What is the difference between the 960 and 960N?

2. I am guessing that the the only difference between the 955 and 960 is that the 955 doesnt have PIP and some of the other extras?

3. Why on the Sony website is the KD-36XS955 LESS expensive that the KD-34XS955?

Has anyone found anymore good deals on these TVs?

Thanks

kny3twalker
03-09-06, 09:01 PM
the differences between the XS and XBR are
firewire, twinview, and DRC palettes (reality and clarity of 480i image adjustment)

the N models have had their anti-glare coating removed

widescreen is more than 4:3

do a search people have been getting the XBRs for about the MSRP of the 970

Thanks for the info. I guess the ones with the anti-glare removed are alright??
I think I read somewhere that they removed it on later models because of problems with it peeling off.

Yes I have seen the 34XS955 advertised for $699 which I think is a good deal.

Thanks

Just so I am clear. Since the tubes in the 960 and 955 are the same, they should both represent a standard def picture at the same quality? I wasnt sure I understood the comment about 480i earlier in this thread.

And by the way, how is that standard def picture anyway?

Sorry to see the end of the 960 before I could afford one.

Thanks.

Yes. Absolute equals. Same exact tube.

And by the way, how is that standard def picture anyway?

Amazing, especially if you take the time to tweak it and calibrate it.

Sorry to see the end of the 960 before I could afford one.

We're all sorry about it and the larger ramifications thereof.
