Hi, everyone I ordered and finally got my 30' set about a week ago the tv is awsome. This is my first hdtv and one thing i noticed is that these tv's seem to need alot more tweeking than old sdtv's. Well anyways to get back to my problem (hoping its not something major and won't have to be returned) I have noticed when watching dvd's on my PS2 via component cables over the last couple of days When watching dark scenes that when the camera pans around or there is movement in the film that there seems to be a white streak of light that follows the image. Or if there is a switch of scenes i can sometimes see a white image of the past scene for a fraction of a second. Once again this happens mostly in dark scenes but i did see it once or twice in a bright scene. If anyone happens to know what this is please let me know and whats causing it too.

TIA

I would say get a different dvd player. The PS2 isn't famous for it's dvd playback quality.

Yeah, I really hope it's the PS2 that's the cause of all this, because the tv is rediculously good looking. Blackest blacks and wonderfully colorful. I've only had her for a week and am really impressed. Can't wait to finally get some hdtv. :)

definitely its the PS2, I did DVD calibration for the PS2 on my TV and its the same as my PC

the brightness and contrast are needed to be set high in order to get the same blacks and whites as when using a stand alone DVD player

also the PS2 is known for its poor DVD playback and AFAIK, the xbox360 is no better

That called ghosting its another form of image retention. Its the tv not the ps2. It happens with alot of tv's.

Is this something that can be fixed ?

No. You're simply at the mercy of the PS2's ancient hardware.

The PS2 is a horrible DVD player. It's even been known to physically damage DVD's outright.

You'd do well to get away from it ASAP.

Given the history of the PS2, i wouldn't even bother troubleshooting movie playback. Do you have a standalone dvd player in the house to compare? I haven't looked at dvd players in store recently, but would imagine they are pretty cheap.

I never used the PS2 to watch movies, but given what people have posted over and over, i would get that out of the equation asap. If the streaking/ghosting issue persists after changing the player we can discuss further, but I would recommend addressing the obvious first.

Before blaming the PS2, check out while watching regular TV if it happens.

I think the technical term is Phosphor lag (ghosting). I have the xbr960N and it suffers from it. I notice it on DVD, xbox games or watching HDTV. Some claim it might get better as the TV gets older. I have a CRT computer monitor using the Mitsubishi DiamondTron tube and it has the same ghosting. I've had it for years and the ghosting has never changed.
