Hello i just got an hdtv its not a flat panel, but it has dvi in and i got a dvi cable and hooked it into my computer to the tv. i cant get the screen to be the right size on the tv or the monitor. it wont let me change the rez. i have a rez changer but it wont let me change it either. the display is way to big on the tv and also on the monitor. i can only see like half of the stuff. is there any way to fix this and make the tv look just as good as a regular montior? i might be in the wrong forum just let me know. thankyou very much. also btw the tv is an rca d32f750t .

CRT based HDTVs are 1080i native, and sometimes they will also display 480p natively
natively meaning without conversion to another resolution
1080i is 1920x1080i and is 16:9, 480p is either 720x480 or 640x480 and is 4:3
also HDTV will only take certain resolutions as input meaing 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 480i
and if the TV does take in 720p, it gets converted to 1080i
then there is the problem of overscan, this is where only part of the image is displayed and the edges are hidden, it is normal for HDTVs to have overscan
overscan hides the garbage usually add the edge of SDTV
but is not needed for HDTV, so someday, TVs will probably not have this like PC monitors
also of your problems can be fixed depending on your video card in your PC, but some things are unavoidable
like the fact that CRT based HDTVs are not monitor replacements cause of their 1080i scan rate (resolution)
also it appears your TV is 4:3 (32"), so the largest output you will be able to send to your TV and have it fill your screen is 720x480 at 60 HZ (59.940 Hz)
also it sounds like you have your monitor and TV, in clone mode, or some other undesirable mode
I tend to run in single monitor mode for performance reasons and have a hotkey switch the enabled monitors
although when I have run TV and monitor together, I would use dual mode
by the problem comes from which do you want to have as primary
I hope some of this helps and maybe you can describe your setup more
and I can help answer more questions, so you can get the desired outcome

been a while since I have used an aTI card but I believe its called mirror mode, which dsiplays the same thing on both monitors
there should be an option for extended desktop if you want to run both displays at once
also another probably causing problems is your old video card
ATI has much better HDTV out support for newer video cards with better quality DVI output and for the older cards, component is the better option to use (like 9x00 series)
also it could be a heat related problem
but your card pre dates even component support which started with the 9500 series
let me ask you this what are your intention to do with your PC to your TV?
video, music, picture, DVD viewing/listening and cataloguing? play games? or monitor replacement
cause you will have good results with the first two, and not so much the last

well my suggestion would be running the TV at 480p (which would be 640x480 at 60 Hz
try running it in single mode, with your PC monitor in stand by
once you get more further with it, try running in extended desktop, but if you have performance issues go back to single display mode

are you using 1080i, well thats normal
for text to be blurry
only half the picture is drawn every 60th of a second, first the even lines then the odd
this is what I tried to explain above, that CRT 1080i HDTVs are not monitor replacements
and since 720p gets converted to 1080i, its no better
about the purple, got no idea, maybe your do not have your brightness and contrast correctly set

my suggestion would be updating your video card, you are not the first person to struggle with low end cards and HDTV connections
